Leap of Faith (1992) - Steve Martin as a traveling Evangelist

The Movie Board's obsession with the war on televangelists reminded me of a great 1990s movie with Steve Martin as a traveling evangelist - Leap of Faith.
This movie is a real gem. It's funny, deep, sad, and redemptive all at the same time. Very intelligent story, great acting, and nostalgic of a time period lost to history - the 1990s.
If you haven't seen it I highly suggest you watch it soon.

It reminds me a lot of Elmer Gantry.

As long as we're talking throwback Televangelism Comedy, you have to mention Fletch Lives.

It was very well done - above solid casting and great performances make this a underrated gem.

fwiw, Philip Seymour Hoffman had great supporting roles in the 1990s

I thought he was great in The Talented Mr. Ripley.

Not a comedy but the best movie about an evangelist I've ever seen was The Apostle with Robert Duval.

One of those solid from top to bottom movies you see every now and then. Real craftmanship on display.
