...because He wanted to be a leading Man, so his people told him it was a supporting character and no matter how good it was he needed to pass on it.

Tarantino lays out the story in great detail on the latest Rewatchables on "The King of New York"

He apparently also was offered the Sam Jackson part as Zeus in Die Hard with A Vengeance... And delayed on it over money.

Side note about the Rewatchables:

They really need to stop making episodes about movies that the people on the pod clearly hate the movie

The entire 1999 series they did had atleast one person on the panel that either flat out hated the movie, or didn’t think enough about it to even care.

I’m not saying you gotta suck the movies dick the whole time but I really don’t need a 30 minute dialogue about how the jokes aren’t funny because they are problematic, or get a film school lesson on why a teen comedy movie is bad, or hardly talking about the actual movie because you want to go on a 20 minute diatribe about the career arc of Adam Sandler (they did this twice).

The office space one made me so mad because I frickin love it and it felt like listening to a couple of 13 year olds interpretation of that movie.

That is a huge issue with the Rewatchables. They go off-topic so often that you can go 10-15 minutes without hearing anything about the actual movie.

They also get cringey with race and other "woke" type issues. I remember in the episode on The Natural, one of the guys said the movie hasn't aged well because there weren't any black people in it. Then half of the Wedding Crashers episode was about the sensitivity of the movie's humor.

If you listened to the Unstoppable one with QT, he totally threw cold water on Simmons and Co.'s usual "what's aged the worst" bullshite.

They act like l, as you'd said, 13 year old millennial morons.

Simmons says that Pine's story about getting into a fight with his wife and pulling a gun on a cop was "bad."

QT then says "that actually sounded like a real thing that would or could happen. And it was great writing."

Then Simmons says "flip phones have aged badly"

Tarantino's repaonse: I have a flip phone. I'll never have one of those (pointing to a smartphone).

And the says "If I could carry no phone At all I would."

They then start making fun of texting on flip phone and then QT says "I have had many a conversation texting that way."

It just shows how avoslutley in the 24 year old docuhebag bubble Simmons, a dude in his 50s think. They think they're cool, but they're not. They don't realize they come off as the biggest pussified douche's.

Yea, especially when it’s just Simmons and Fennessy (the worst). If it was always Simmons, Russillo, and Chris Ryan I would listen to them do a podcast on freaking Jupiter Ascending or Gigli

I've never viewed Fishburne as close to an A-list actor.

Seems he did though.

I've always heard the bartender guy was originally offered the role of Jules.

That one was the worst. They wouldn’t let that shite go.

I think Simmons has been a little better since that episode when he’s on about trying to steer the conversation away from talking about that constantly, but when he’s not there they turn into some real elitist assholes about the whole thing.

For American pie, Simmons atleast was saying the web cam scene was funny when the rest of the guys on there wanted to act like we should actually prosecute Jason Biggs for this scene. It’s literally a spoof of the infamous Porkys scene. It’s a movie and it’s funny. We don’t need to sweat under our collars about a fake scene about horny teenagers being horny

13 year olds are not millennials. If you are goning to bash a generation know which one you are complaining about. People born around 1995 to 2011-ish are called Zoomers aka Gen Z. Millennials aka Gen Y are around 1980-1994. Bill Simmons was born in 1969 which makes him a Gen Xer.

I did not know this.

Putting aside the fact that SLJ was tGoat as Jules, this is one of the few times I’ve heard of an actor passing on a great role and thought had he done it I bet he would’ve done a really good job. I could see fishburne having been a really solid Jules Winnfield back then.

Fishburne could've delivered it just as well I think.

Especially the scripture/big kahuna scene.
