I am naturally sensitive to parodies of Louisiana culture by outsiders, but God that episode had me laughing.

Never realized that both Bobby and Boomhauer have the name of Jeffrey. Robert Jeffrey Hill & Jeffrey Dexter Boomhauer

Bobby named after Boomhauer is cool.

kind of weird that you don't know until the very end that Boomhauer is a Texas ranger

And Mike Judge, while not conservative or even really libertarian, is also not very pinko liberal either.

I would also be shocked, knowing why Judge isn’t a lefty, if he hasn’t become MORE conservative over the last few years.

Hank Hill isn't exactly a big Republican. He did name his dog Ladybird after all.

One thing I DON'T want to see from this show is societal commentary. The original show had none of that and it was brilliant.

It's pretty much the norm for adult animation now.

He also made comments talking about the last great Texan president and he specifically says “and I don’t mean Herbert Walker Bush”

The old school conservative Democrat. Didn't Hank hang out with Ann Richards in an episode?

As long as Judge and Daniels are all for it, then I'm excited. It's one of those shows that was so ingrained in everyday American life, that I could see them coming up with all kinds of new stories.

I hope they find a way to bring back Cotton. I don't think the show would be the same without him.

The show had a bunch of that, man.

They just did it in a very lighthearted way that poked fun very evenly and had a lot of heart to it.

Yeah, the show was loaded with social commentary from the very first episode, it just wasn't done in the rabid partisan way that people have gotten used to in recent years.

I wonder if Hank and Peggy are raising Luanne and Lucky's daughter?

Exactly correct. The show was a perfect example that you can poke a little fun at different groups of people without being nasty and mean about it. If they do revive it I hope they continue with that

Maybe "social commentary" isn't the right phrase. I meant having entire episodes that mirror current events.

It gets tiresome in South Park.

Was browsing some old newspaper archives, came across this ad in a 1907 San Antonio paper:

Not only was Alamo a real beer made by Lone Star brewing, the label - from what I can make of it - looks pretty close to what they used in the show. I'm guessing Judge must've visited the brewery or Buckhorn Saloon and seen an old label.
