Ooh... I'm sorry. The answer that would have impressed us was "Ronald Moore."
Just kidding. Tell him that Blood and Chrome had better be more inspired than Caprica.

Glad someone brought up Ellen Tigh - that was one of the more anticlimactic moments that I can remember when she was revealed as the 5th. For I don't know how many episodes they led in with the "4 live among the crew and 1 will be revealed". And then it was her. Meh.

But how many new characters were there in the 4th season that she hadn't interacted with before?
I have no idea. I read it after I watched the series. I thought it is was interesting, if not entirely accurate.

I liked how they planted seeds from the beginning to make your mind race to figure out who the fifth might be. The "Adama is a Cylon" line... you had written it off as an opportunistic lie in season one, but maybe there was something to it? Then you wondered whether it was Bill or Lee Adama. Or maybe it's Kara. But no, it's just Ellen. It works for the story, at least.

I always liked Ellen so I did not have a problem with it.

It's not that she's unlikable, just that she's kind of a dull candidate for cylonhood. With all of the suspense, it seemed like it was going to be a more major character.

That's more of what I was getting at. It worked and was the right choice. It was just the build up for it was far greater than the pay off.

I always thought she was a cylon. I never let go of the way she just showed up on the ship. I can't remember the exact circumstance, but I always thought it was odd that they just rolled with it after a while. Maybe, it was Baltar's test that proved she wasn't a cylon? I can't remember, but I always thought she was.

Her DNA sample, like Boomer's, proved her to be a cylon. But Baltar had decided not to disclose who was a cylon because of his own cowardice. In that episode, Six asks if she is and he replies, "I'll never tell."
ETA: or you could posit that she came up negative because she's one of the "proto-cylons" and not a skinjob. Either way, she was cleared.

I had completely forgotten about that.

I thought Gaeda was always the better choice to be the cylon.
Contrary to popular belief, there was a short list of characters it could be imo while the show was running and Ellen was on mine.

I thought it was Ellen also, but the part of me that enjoys a good everything-you-know-is-fricked plot point wanted it to be a more central player.
As a side note, I wish Zarek had become a protagonist after New Caprica... there was that moment between him and Roslin in which he seemed like he had been changed by the experience. I realize that this temporary bonding of opposites served to show that different ideologies need a common enemy to reconcile with each other... but I liked Richard Hatch too much in that role for him to just go back to narcissistic, see me once every few episodes Tom Zarek.

Yes and Know. I liked most of the major characters too much to see that happen. I thought Tigh and Galen together were big enough to offset that. If it would have been Roslin, Adama, or Baltar that would have been no fun.

Completely agree. The show needed a Zarek role, but they should have let Zarek go good and replaced him with someone else. I don't know who, but someone should have become the political nemesis.

Ok.
1. Why did they get off at that rock of a planet. You've been on the run for a long time. Sick of eating goop for food all the time. Packed like sardines, constantly trying to find water and food and praying the few processing ships you have don't wear out. As Lee said, they were not a civilization but a gang on the run. Can't blame them for wanting to make a go of it on New Caprica.
2. Season 2 episodes with Pegasus were pretty damn good and the closing one was good too when the Cylons show up.
3. NBC screwed things up by switching to Sundays then back to Fridays and then taking 10 month breaks in between seasons and half seasons.
4. Everyone on Galactica saw Starbuck after she came back. Baltar pointed out to everyone her blood was not cylon nor was it the original kara but that she must be a miracle.
5. The mutiny was awesome. The turning point was when Zarek massacred the council. He had been the leader for democracy and having rights but then decided to take over himself. Revolutions do indeed eat their children.
6. Finale. First hour was damn good space porn. Second hour, giving up technology? Um yeah.

I can finally contribute to this thread for I have finished Battlestar Galactica, one of the best TV series I have ever seen. Thank you Movie/TV Board for this recommendation.
I knew there were many fans of this on the board, so as I was watching I made a few notes. I was worried that some would be obsolete as the plot panned out, but they held up well. They are as follows.
1) That's how spaceflight is supposed to be to me. The tricks those vipers can do shows all the 3 axes of maneuvering a spacecraft.
2) They (the writers) know how to start a season, and they know how to end a season. With each successive one becoming more and more awesome.
3) (Season 2) Pegasus story arc: "You don't come on our ship and frak with our cylon and the way we do things." That's how I felt after the first 2 episodes.
4) (Season 3) In Baltar's trial the only thing else I wanted was to put Caprica (#6) on the stand.
5) Overall question: What were the cylons planning for the first 7 and the 5? First seven used for invading Caprica and keeping track of fleet? The 5? How do they choose cylons? It's lucky that all their models made it to the fleet! But they can see the prophecies! Was it all "written"?
6) They (the writers)like killing children and babies. Or at least they aren't afraid to.
7) (Season 4 - Mid-season) You can tell that the characters are in for a letdown when something big comes to a conclusion before the end of the season. I am talking about the fleet finding Earth. And I am talking about how Earth was a nuke-decimated wasteland. I kind of think it as a good thing. I am glad they are out looking for their own planet. The entire series was about destiny and fate and how everything has happened before and will happen again. Now that this treaty was made between Man and Cylon, perhaps they don't have to follow the rules of fate. They all need to find a new planet to call home and to make their own story for the Ages. I liked that this happened. I like that they shoved off Earth.
----
After the finale:
- Chief & Helo are my favorite characters. Chief and Helo make a great team, and Chief and Anders are an awesome team as well. Gaeta was great as well.
- I really liked the ending. But the really weird thing is that it was all too familiar. By that I mean I have thought about man coming from a similar situation. I even wrote something about it.
Here's what I wrote on October 8th, 2008:
So, perhaps it was my destiny to watch Battlestar Galactica.
Again, THANK YOU Movie/TV Board for talking about this enough to encourage me to watch it.
One last not-so-serious thing that I am crazy enough to think of/pick out: In title theme of the show where they have that "airy" song you can clearly hear one of the lyrics as "Laura Roslin".

Here's what I wrote on October 8th, 2008:
quote:
3 million years ago, humans were on Mars. They eventually acquired knowledge to build nuclear weapons. They ended up destroying the planet beyond repair, the last remaining 1,000 built a spaceship and went to the closest habitable planet: Earth. Upon take off they detonated all of the nuclear weapons on mars to erase all knowledge of what was a horrible end to the civilization there. After entering Earth's atmosphere they landed on the Great Rift Valley in Africa. They destroyed and buried their ship. They removed all technology from the old planet, and used the materials from the new to continue their survival. As time progressed they developed new and easier ways to do things. They eradicated many of the species that looked very similar, because of the tools they had made. Over the next three million years the human species progressed to the species that we know of today. Recently they developed nuclear weapons. Long and far removed from their old planet, their reason for destruction was lost in the necessity of threat from foreboding countries. Today, astronomers look through their telescopes and have an innate feeling of familiarity when they see Mars. Sometimes they get a chill.
So, perhaps it was my destiny to watch Battlestar Galactica.
