Rather than a "film". Don't talk about your "favorite films". It doesn't make you sound smarter or more sophisticated, and it doesn't impress anybody. It comes across as pretentious IMO. I'm sure I've done it a time or two, but I take it back. Just call it a movie! Go to the movie theater and watch a movie!

Dude...there's a difference between a film and a movie. And it's important to know the difference.

So there is a reason it is called the Robinson Film center and not the Robinson Movie Center?

How about picture show?

Maybe. Whatever he said, he said it with excitement and exclamation marks. E.g., "Films!" or "In the six!"

In the US, the terms are interchangeable, but most major, commercial motion pictures aimed at a broad viewing audience (in the hopes of making a profit) are usually referred to as "movies". The term "film" is commonly applied to movies of an artistic or educational nature not expected to have broad, commercial appeal.

That's where I live.

In other words, the pretentious, self-important ones. That description immediately made me think of Terrence Malick, whose movies I uniformly dislike. [Disclaimer - I haven't seen The Thin Red Line.]

ETA: I consider artistic movies, movies - just like all the others.

Well, I prefer to call it a god damn film. Not to be pretentious or anything, its just the term I prefer. I don't go out and correct people who call them movies. Seems like you're the one who's being pretentious.
