He hasn’t let Hollywood make him forget the basic fundamentals of good story telling—The same tried and true narrative principles that made films like the original Star Wars trilogy great.

The good guys are good.

The bad guys are bad.

Good vs Evil.

That's it.

Darth Vader is a story of a battle of bad vs good raging inside of him.

Anakin Skywalker vs Darth Vader.

And Anakin-good was always going to win eventually and kill the bad guy that brought about Darth Vader.

My point stands.

He's one of the best out there. Probably my favorite American director right now. I'd rank Chef in my half-dozen or so favorite movies from the last ten years. Everything he does just puts me in a good mood. Wife and I started watching his spinoff cooking show on Netflix. Great stuff.

Not really. Your point was it was a simple black and white story. Then you defended your point by saying there was also grey..? Not trying to get into a movie fight, but just pointing out that the original trilogy is more nuanced than you were insinuating.

And Favreau is great.

Don't care.

Good was always going to win against evil.

Doesn't matter how micro or macro the fight was or the character and the issues they're dealing with.

Copy and paste for every adventure story that has ever existed regardless of quality but go off, dude. What an intelligent take.

The Shannara series he had a hand in was pretty shitty. But he does a lot more good stuff than bad.

Hollywood's problem is that so many directors and screen writers are out there trying to reinvent the wheel. "I'm going to deconstruct Star Wars/Star Trek/James Bond/Westerns..." Please don't. Write or direct a good movie. That should be your goal. That should be your only goal.

Yes, this has been lost.

We don't need re-tellings ... we need new stories based on the seven basic plot structures. All of us know what they are ... we just need new detail ... new imaginations. Quit beating the dead horse.

This redundancy in hollywood needs to stop. I love super heroes ... but how about a regular, good story every once in a while.

Maybe a contrarian opinion, but Lion King sucked and was the worst of all the live action remakes.

Other than that, he’s gold.

No, this is true. I just said this very same thing to a friend earlier today. And I’m the OP. He screwed up Lion King bad.

For the last 20 years Star Wars as a franchise has been run by people that either don't understand it or who outright hate it and want to tear it down.
