It was recently reported that Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) would be playing the lead of Paramount Pictures’ planned reboot of Pet Sematary, a feature adaptation of Stephen King‘s classic horror tome of the same name. Clarke is on board to play Dr. Louis Creed, essentially a city doc who moves his family into the Maine countryside to escape the hustle and bustle. In the original tale–both the 1983 novel and the cult classic 1989 movie from director Mary Lambert–Dr. Creed befriends a local yokel by the name of Jud Crandall, a part played endearingly well by the late Fred Gwynne. The recasting of this particular role was a pretty important one and Paramount seems to have nailed it.

As EW reports, the studio has tapped twice Oscar-nominated actor John Lithgow to play the part. That’s solid casting. Expect more casting news to be announced in the coming weeks and months since the plan is to shoot the picture this summer, aimed for an April 19, 2019 release date. Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer (Starry Eyes) will direct the remake from a script by Jeff Buhler, to be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian and Steven Schneider. Pet Sematary is but the latest in a new wave of King adaptations. Keep ‘em comin’, I say.

I hate that they're remaking this, but I do like the casting choice.

I'm 30 years old. Sometimes I still have flashbacks of Zelda in the bed.

For me, the most terrifying part in the movie was when the baby got hit by the truck. I can't sit through that part anymore.

She had meningitis.

I have experience with that disease. It doesn’t look like that at all, and if they wanted it to be more grotesque, they could have given her meningococcal sepsis

I don’t know if Lithgow could come across..... as solid of a rock as Jud is.

I just finished about a month ago Michael C Hall’s reading of Pet Sematary (which is excellent btw, 2nd only to IT for audiobooks) and Jud seems to be a harder man than he is in the movie.

He described why he goes to prosititutes and he is like “well, there are some things you want a woman to do that you shouldn’t ask your wife to do.” Lol

That was one of the few movies that spooked me as a tweener, along with the original TCM, Poltergiest, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, and I Spit on Your Grave.

Will never be as good as the original, but will watch.

I predict an over abundance of jump scares and excessive gore.

There's no reason for this.

The original is great.

This is on the level of Footloose and Red Dawn remake.

Has there been a remake in the last 10 years that outperformed the original?
