Has there ever been a rundown of what happened with the Netflix show? There had to be something behind the scenes, because the timeline I remember was:

Norm has amazingly reviewed podcast where he does excruciatingly awkward/corny Norm interviews.

Netflix signs Norm to do a 30 minute show based on the podcast.

Everyone gets excited.

Lineup is full of blowhard liberals (not an insult, mind you, just a fact) that seem teed up for amazing Norm interviews that will skewer and confuse them before everybody gets the joke and laughs.

Show comes out and literally every interview is completely genuine and wholesome.

I watch every episode in one day because I love Norm, then I promptly forget this even exists.

I'm sure Netflix told him to tamp down the language and crude humor and we got a watered down Norm.

Netflix also ran away from Norm because he said Louis CK shouldn't have been scrubbed from show business and then he said Downs Syndrome on Stern....that's about it from what I understand.

Norm is too much of a maverick for big mainstream corporations. That's why YouTube 10 years ago was perfect for him. INGSOC YouTube of 2020 will probably try to demonitize his show if it's like the old one.

Hopefully Norm realizes this will get him a lot more money to gamble with.

Anyone remember the Comedy Central roast (forget who was roasted) where Norm bombed on purpose? Everyone before him (Greg Giraldo, Jeff Ross, etc.) had some super raunchy/dirty material that got a lot of laughs.

Then Norm goes up and spits out some of the corniest PG material of all time. The audience was dumbfounded and silent but the comedians on stage were laughing their asses off.

Legend.

That doesn't jibe with the whole creative-freedom thing Netflix is famous for, certainly not for a miniscule budget talk show.

I don't know if he choked (creatively) or if he never really wanted to do it in the first place or if the whole show was just kind of a riff on the idea of a show.

I mean, Letterman got him the show. He’s not one to spit in Letterman’s face. They are each other’s biggest fans. The only real reason Norm never got a late night show or was Letterman’s successor is Norm has always delivered the middle finger to authority. Maybe more than any other comedian outside of Bill Hicks and George Carlin.

I’ll put it this way, in his legendary hosting of SNL, he was initially just going to do his “frick You” monologue to the show, and then just leave, but Artie Lange talked him out of it at the last minute. Him not being Letterman’s successor is partially his fault, but he could be the #2 or #1 great podcaster behind Joe Rogan if he gets his shite together.

Going on letterman and pissing on the president of NBC probably wasn’t the best career move

Are you kidding me? That’s what made Letterman love Norm.

We all loved it but I am sure networks bosses weren’t exactly thrilled with hiring someone that doesn’t give a frick.

Oh I misread what you posted. I thought you may have thought Letterman was still working for NBC and that pissed Letterman off.
