Leo is consistently solid, but I've yet to see him in a role where I thought he was great.
I can't respect the opinion of anyone who didn't think Leo was great in The Departed. Not good. Not solid. GREAT.

He was good. I don't agree he was great. A lot of brooding, a lot of intensity, but he didn't inhabit the role.

Alot of you are forgetting Gatbsy and D'Jango.... I thought Leo was great in both of those roles.

No doubt. Made even more amazing by the fact it wasn't pleasant to watch, but you just had to.

Phoenix has far more depth and intensity. He also has more range than some give him credit for if you really look at his career.

DiCaprio is talented but he is more of a movie star who can act.

I actually really liked him in Django. He's solid in pretty much everything, I just don't think he's made the jump to greatness at this point.

Phoenix has far more . . . intensity.
I really can't express how much I disagree with this. To say that anyone has "far more intensity" than Leonardo DiCaprio is mind-boggling to me.

Watch The Master, movie was slow but Phoenix was outstanding and he deserved the Oscar.
I actually agree with all of that. I was an advocate for Phoenix deserving the Oscar for that performance. But I still believe DiCaprio's performances in The Aviator and The Departed were better.

I'll just have to agree to disagree with some people in this thread. Both are great actors, and you can't go wrong with either one. But. . . Leo is better!

Leo is a great actor.

Phoenix is almost Brando-level.

Leonardo DiCaprio was great in Catch Me If You Can, The Aviator, and The Departed. Those are my three favorite performances by him.

I still think Leo should have beaten Jamie Foxx out for the Oscar for his performance in The Aviator. Jamie Foxx was good but his performance was more of an imitation of Ray Charles than it was acting. DiCaprio became Howard Hughes.

It's saying something if you outshine Tom Hanks.

The answer is a River. Had he lived and continued to act, his brother would be Casey Afleck.

This is a joke, right?

Leo and it ain't close....at all. He's the best in the business with Daniel Day-Lewis.
