Supposedly this is going to really really hurt Phoenix’s prospects on other movies as film insurance groups will be less likely to back projects he’s tagged too

Any gay movie scene is an instant fast forward for me. The thought of graphic gayness specifically with Joaquin Phoenix, I might pour Drano in my eyes

Everyone starting to realize that a bunch of gay and girl power movies just don't make any money.

Sure. You guys are ignoring that this movie was a small project from a director who's been making weird arthouse films, often with stars and very rarely making any box office imapct, for over 35 years. He had arguably his most mainstream success last year with May December.
And this project was about to film. The investors are mad phoenix left, not that the film had no commercial prospects. We don't know why Phoenix dropped out, but it's hard to imagine it was over box office concerns. He's been no stranger to indie projects with no realistic hope of even modest mainstream box office success.

Pretty sure it's about how he would be perceived down the line after taking a role playing a gay person, especially since it was said to be NC-17 which generally means graphic material, likely of the sexual nature.

That movie looked so low effort it was ridiculous. They were obviously banking on being the first gay rom com rather than being a good rom com.
Not sure I could watch a movie with Billy Eichner being featured for 60+ minutes, he makes it a chore to watch Parks & Rec when he is first introduced but later on tones it down A LOT.

Probably seeing all the hunky straight dudes getting all the spotlight and figured playing a gay wouldn't help his career.

Well, sounds like he didn’t want the inevitable multiple Oscars that would have predictably followed.
By description alone Hollywood would have broken the golden shower record on this one.
