I tend to agree. I had no earthly fricking idea what was going on in Inception. At least the Matrix has rules. Inception was just dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within cow sperm within petrified dog turds within a dream.

Now, this doesn't mean that the Matrix vomit after the original were on par or even close to Inception, but they did make more sense.

Dark City, The Matrix, and maybe Primer are the only modern Sci-fi classics.

I guess I went in with too high of expectations when I watched it just 2 days ago because everybody seemed to have it as one of their top movies.

Hell, nobody had Cloud Atlas listed as a top 10 movie and I liked it better. The cinematography was much better and the plot was actually better.

A kid looking like he's gotta take a shite and making people float in the air? Really? Hell, 'Sixth Sense' was better than this.

And I can't think of the movie, but hasn't this kid getting pissed and making shite faces been done before in another movie? This is killing me, does anyone know the name of the movie?

I liked it and thought it was very good, but not great by any means. Silver Linings Playbook beat the shite out of it, too.

The man willing to kill for a woman and the mother willing to die for her child was a good concept, but then it just ends with him shooting himself? This could have been done better.

Haven't seen it.

The Matrix
Yes.

Primer
No.

And Inception is a modern Sci-Fi classic as well, IMO. That's not to say it's in the same league as Blade Runner - it's not. But I think in, say, 10 years' time, it will definitely be considered a classic. As it should be, IMO.

RollTide said: "I'm gonna be crucified for this but I have always found Blade Runner, and Ridley Scott for that matter, to be highly overrated."

I will join RollTide as a sacrifice. I think Blade Runner is overrated, too. I guess it can be lauded for the visuals and effects.

Nor do I consider Inception and Loopers to be that great. I like Inception better than Loopers but still didn't think it was extraordinary.

To each his own, but the very premise of Loopers fails because of the murder of Bruce Willis's wife in the future. No one thought to send her back 30 years for death and disposal of the body.

I think Prometheus will gain appreciation over time.

I warm up to it more and more each time I watch it.

It's hard to make a good sci-fi movie that has lofty issues and makes the audience think.

Prometheus tried to tackle a somewhat recently untouched sci-fi theme: what if you actually met God? Would you be amazed? Would you be dissapointed? Would you die at the site of "him"?

Same theme as 2001: A Space Odessy, but made 40 years later and "God" turns out to be VERY different.

Inception's theme: Special effects are cool.

Looper: What are you willing to sacrifice for the good of humanity?

Some of these aren't themes perse, but they are underlying questions that make the audience think.

Looper was good. but, 10 years from now, I think it will stand on the same level that "12 Monkeys" does today.

Comments like that have led me to nominate Looper for the most overrated film of the year.

Seriously, this is what you took away from it? The themes, and there are many, include: reality versus perception, love undying, the role of memory in our psyche, returning home, etc. etc. etc.

Sixth Sense was a good movie. I wouldn't say it was better than Looper, but it was a good movie.

There have been tons, most notably, perhaps, is Akira (which is sci-fi classic, imo).

As was asked earlier, how are people this fricking perplexed by Inception? It's pretty damn easy to follow. There have been charts and shite made if you really need them.

Inception is destined to be a classic for all the reasons classics are classics: A true love story in the background, solid acting, innovative directing, and an inventive story line that contains classic themes other than love (e.g. betrayal, friendship, hope, etc.)

So the vast majority of people followed along just fine, but you didn't, so the movie sucks now?

Isn't that his opinion? I didn't think it was that great. Definitely not classic material.

I was hoping someone else would say this. I completely agree. Both are good movies, but I like Inception much more.
