The marketing made this look like a bleh CW romance, so I never even considered watching it.
Wife binged it over the summer, and it's a gem. If any of the marketing or reviews had referenced how similar it was to Arrested Development (in structure, not remotely in plot or star power) with the labyrinthine writing and constant call-backs, I would have been much more likely to watch from the beginning.
Also, Rogelio is fricking hilarious

I don't think I'd watch this show if it wasn't for my wife, which is kind of a shame because it does have a lot of hilarious moments. It's not a parody of telenovelas, but that's the tone they aim for. And yes, Rogelio de la Vega is hilarious.

My wife and I stopped watch a year or so ago but yes the dad is absolutely hilarious. As is the voice over guy.
