OG
Pure nightmare on film
Been a while
Forgot about the freaky head shake effect. Been in bunches of movies, but don’t remember it before this one
shite creeps me out

Never saw the new one
Heard about it, but don’t remember it being released
Didn’t really have interest
Not a flick where a remake was anything close to necessary

Saw it in the theater and haven't watched it since. I think I'll check it out. Thanks for the heads up!

I need to rewatch this one. I saw it years ago when I got into a little “fricked up movies” phase (and got a decent list from this board). And I was pretty underwhelmed by it. It was weird for sure, but I remember it just being not very good really. May need to revisit it and give it another shot.

SPOILERS:

Unlike The Sixth Sense where the twist demands a rewatch to trace how you got fooled, the twist at the end of the original JL doesn't. It was all a creepy dreamy state in his head as he was dying on the battlefield. It's similar to why LOST is not rewatchable once you know they were all dead and none of the mysterious stuff over 6 seasons ever happened. I enjoyed the OG movie but never felt compelled to rewatch.

If we're talking about the old version, Elizabeth Pena was still in her cute phase. It's a shame that she died relatively young. I read that she died partly from alcoholism.

Um, what? Yeah that’s not accurate.

This has been on my list for years. I guess I’ll finally watch it.

I FINALLY decided to watch for the very first time late last night after seeing this thread and recently seeing it mentioned in Halloween horror movie threads. I didn’t even know what the movie was about.

I liked it ok, but I can’t really ever imagine wanting to watch it again. IMO it was more of a mystery. It was less so a “thriller” and certainly wasn’t a horror movie for me.

Spoilers:

I’ve always heard this movie was a total mindfrick. Throughout the entire movie, there were only two options it seemed… either he was schizophrenic or he was already dead… but actually he was in the process of dying. I liked the ending scene. He died peacefully after a strong battle and struggle to live. His mind was battling through a dream state and his own version of Hell before he let go. I thought that was a satisfying ending (assuming I followed the story correctly)
