never watch anything dubbed, it fricks up the movie.

Subtitles always.

They have their place with movies where you want to keep your focus on the screen itself.

But for Parasite, yes,

Watching it dubbed wouldn't be the same to me. But to each their own.

‘Parasite’ will probably never be dubbed in English
Though Bong Joon-ho didn’t explicitly say he was anti-dubbing, his pro-subtitle comments lead fans to believe that Parasite will probably never get dubbed into English. And considering the movie’s success so far, it doesn’t sound like it needs to be.

The subtitled version of Parasite will begin streaming exclusively on Hulu on April 8. It’s worth leaping that one-inch barrier to give it a try.

Very few foreign movies are now given the budget to record a dub track. American audiences have historically disliked the unsynced voices and mouth of dubbed movies, outside of the brief 70s boom of dubbed martial arts films from Hong Kong.

And animated movies.

I could not disagree more. Subtitles keep my eyes on the words and off of what is actually being shot. Dubs keep me in the moment. I will watch a dub over a sub 100 times out of 100.

Granted, dubs are much more distracting in live action movies verses animated ones.

If you use closed captioning for awhile you'll find your eyes adjust and that you learn to see everything at once, the full screen and the subtitles.

The movies where dubbing helps is Italian movies where I find the subtitles go off the screen way too fast as they talk so fast.

But generally dubbed movies suck because they get the translation wrong half the time.

The only company that does it competently is Disney because they have a worldwide audience of kids who can't read. But otherwise studios figure if you can read why dub?

I am saying that a dub of an animated movie is less distracting than a dub of a live action movie.

Even so, a dub of a live action movie is less of a distraction than subtitles.

English speakers > dubbed animated > dubbed live action > subbed live action > subbed animation

I hate closed captioning. I grew up with it because my brother is hearing impaired. It always ends up being wrong, way behind, and covering up vital parts of the screen. CC during sporting events is even worse than useless.

I’ve watched a fair number of subbed movies over the years as well as dubbed ones. I personally prefer watching dubs.

Hate subtitled movies. I miss the action on the screen becasue i'm focusing on the words.

If i wanted to read - i'd buy a novel.

If you're too lazy to read subtitles, don't even watch it because all the nuance will fly over your head.

I've seen Amelie and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, both subtitled. Maybe some others, I can't recall.

I'll pass on Parasite.
