Any 30 minutes of Citizen Kane is more important to movie history than any half hour of any Star Wars movie.
Star Wars was a nostalgia piece taken from serials, pulps, comics, and sci-fi paperbacks. It was fantastic repackaging for an audience that was, for the most part, unaware that everything they were seeing had been done before.
It's a great pop tune. It ain't Mozart.
Exactly, I think as these past weeks have shown, I love Star Wars, but this post is just wrong. Citizen Kane's storytelling and shooting techniques changed everything. And hell, City Lights, the Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, Throne of Blood, the Seven Samurai, and Lawrence of Arabia had more impact on how cinema was shot than Star Wars was. Star Wars was the perfect cocktail. They didn't discover bourbon or anything.

Seriously. Is there a 30-40 minutes in movie history that compares to this in cultural impact?
I think Star Wars is the most culturally relevant film of the 20th centry. I can't isolate any 30-40 minutes of the movie that encapsulate it though.
Star Wars had it all:
It took the term blockbuster and single-handedly redefined it.

Good lord dude, calm the frick down. In " movie history"? Not hardly.
Amen.
Because you could easily throw in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and it's mysterious first act and the cultural impact that film had or the first 30 minutes of JAWS! Or Pyscho!!!! Stealing, fleeing, shower scene.

Last half of Star Wars > First half of Star Wars.
The original Death Star attack is one of the best things in movie history. It's been emulated many times, from ROTJ to TPM to TFA, but never equaled.
