I thought he should have been nominated for an Oscar for Man on the Moon. He was really great in that.

It's hilarious.

When it first came out critics panned the shite out of it because they didn't get it.

Way ahead of its time.

Awesome movie.

I liked this movie when it first came out, but not as much as his others. I was young and was used to his slapstick stuff, and this was probably my first "black comedy." I do think it's one of his best performances. I'm not a big fan of Liar Liar. After The Cable Guy, I've only really enjoyed a few of his movies, like Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine (his best IMO), Me, Myself & Irene, and I Love You Phillip Morris.

Here's a good article with an interview of Judd Apatow about the movie.

"The Cable Guy was an interesting moment in time because Jim Carrey was on fire in his career and we were given a lot of freedom to do something really unique and strange without much interference. And that doesn’t happen very often. I always thought that the script Lou Holtz Jr. wrote was great, and it’s what got us all very interested. But Jim wanted to change it significantly and make it much more of a comedic version of Hand that Rocks the Cradle or Unlawful Entry, whereas the original draft was a little bit more like a What About Bob? annoying-friend movie. It had a light punch to it, and we wanted to turn it into a thriller. So it did require a lot of work. But we were all big fans of the original script and a lot of the things that we built upon were obviously in that draft.

When we shot it, we laughed so hard every day. We really enjoyed watching Jim perform in that character. It was a really fun shoot. When the movie came out, the fact that it got a weird reception totally blindsided us. We didn’t see that coming at all. We just thought the movie was a weird roller-coaster ride, or a funny take-off on all of these insane neighbor movies that were coming out.

Great movie! Way ahead of its time. Directed by Ben Stiller and produced by Judd Apatow.

I don't dislike Liar Liar...it has some great moments, but it doesn't have much of a re-watchability factor to me. It's kind of like Bruce Almighty. It's sort of a dramedy, has some funny spots, but overall these are just ok movies..

Hated the movie at first but it got better each time. Great performance by him.

I had the same reaction to Sandler on Wedding Singer. Just wasn't his same old same old so it didn't catch me right off but both grew to be my favorite from each of them.
