Goes from Little House on the Prarie, Silver Spoons, Hogan Family in the 80's (Hey Dave) bombs Teen Wolf 2, vanishes for 15 years, lands role on cult classic Arrested Development which is dropped before commercial success ensues, then proceeds to just blow up and is everywhere.
Ozark 2 tomorrow bitches!!!

Robert Downey Jr and John Travolta are also in contention for sure.

Does Brando count?
Incredible run in the 50's where he established himself as an all time great. In the 60's, he had a string of flops and fell out of favor.
Then he returns with Last Tango In Paris, The Godfather and Apocalypse Now in the 70's. His decline might not have been as significant as some others, but it's hard to match the quality of his return to glory.

RDJ, hands down. He could buy and sell Bateman multiple times over with the Marvel residuals alone.

I think John Travolta was the most surprising. He was pretty much completely forgotten and then BOOM big star.
RDJ is the biggest star but he always was an amazing actor. I think people were surprised he tanked that bad, more so than he came back

the answer is robert downey jr. the ultimate comeback story.

Robert Downey Jr would get my vote.
Also, John Travolta and Rob Lowe had bigger comebacks than Bateman.
He could continue his comeback story, but right now I’d say he’s more on Matthew Broderick level of comeback.

I think it's less about the comeback and more about his acting chops. Even up to Arrested Development you'd say "Bateman is cool and likable," but not "Solid actor."
Ozark, The Gift, Bad Words - He's put out solid performances.

Martin Landau didn't have a decent film role or TV series after Space 1999 in 1977. Then eleven years later he gets cast in Tucker and starts his run of Oscar and Golden Globe nominations and wins. He worked steady from '88 until he died last year.

Was going to say Brolin.

Mickey Rourke is a good one.
Mickey Rourke in 1986
He then quit acting and became a professional boxer which fricked up his face. Rourke in 1995
Tried to fix his face with surgery, and fricked it up way worse
The last award nomination before boxing was an Indy spirit best actor nod in 1988. He wouldn't receive another until Sin City

I too listen to the Bill Simmons Podcast.
