Watched it last night and enjoyed it. I was on reddit afterwards to read what others had said. I laughed at the guy who complained about how so much of it was all based on "theories".

Hmm seems the replies are mixed so I may just rent it to check it out.

Depends if your into the message and the vision for the movie. It was my favorite movie last year, and I loved it for it's core message and vision. I'm honestly confused on what people were expecting, since I see it as a masterpiece.

Sorry I underestimated the stupidity of the public. I suppose I'll always be disappointed when I expect something from them.

I throughly enjoyed it though. Even though it was super super long. I feel like the big blockbusters are just all getting really long. Wolf of wallstreet, that new Moses movie, and this one all are like 15 hours long with like 10 different point where you think "oh this is the climax...what do you mean there's still 2 hours left in this movie?"

This movie needed that amount of time and had a lot to say. It didn't really drag. It needed that amount of time to tell its story. I don't think you felt it either.

It's worth a watch for sure, but I don't think its a movie to own. It's replay factor for me is slim. It's still a good flick though.

You have to put that in context though. There was exactly a 0% chance that you weren't gonna absolutely love this movie. Zero.

To the OP, I will be buying it on DVD, but I really like owning movies. FWIW, I thought it was a very good movie. For a while, it was an incredible movie, but ended up being just very good due to a pretty ridiculous ending. It's fun as hell though.

My point is that I don't believe it could've "shite the bed" for you. Not at all.

In fact, IMO the ending had a sort of "shite the bed" feel to it anyway...yet you thought it was amazeballs. That's my point.

It was a good movie and I like it a lot . But hardly a masterpiece

Same here. I'm not much into space travel as you are, but I absolutely loved it. The docking scene was pure greatness.

That movie could've been the greatest movie to ever be made and it still wouldn't have sparked a reinterest in space. Don't blame people for not living up to the impossible expectations that you helped set

I think you're a little too invested in the movie, which blinds you to it's weaknesses. It's understandable, we all do it.

I really enjoyed it. Not a movie I'd want to watch over and over again so prob wouldn't buy. Then again, I don't really buy movies.

Rent or buy the first half; don't bother with the rest of it.

Literally the only part of the movie that had me scratching my head. Everything else worked. I wish they had seen how stupid of an idea that was and reworked it. frick.

First 2 hours was the greatest thing I have ever watched. Last 45 minutes was so bad they should have paid me my money back and given me a free popcorn.

It's not that the concept didn't work, it's just Matt Damon was woefully miscast. Yeah it was cool that Matt frickin' Damon pops up right the frick out of nowhere, but after the shock of his appearance, then he's completely unbelievable in the role he was given. Not only is he simply a pussy, but I don't buy for one second that this guy could have convinced 12 people to join him on a suicide mission.

There are two other actors they should have gone with over Damon: Bryan Cranston or Terry O'Quinn. Judging from the dialog, it seems more what Nolan was going for was a badass inspiring survivalist who simply pusses out in the end and becomes ruthless. The only thing Damon got right was the cowardice part. Cranston and O'Quinn are very skilled at going from inspiring and optimistic, to cruel and calculating, and finally to cowardly and horrifying all within the span of a few seconds. Plus the role should have gone to someone only about 10-15 years younger than Michael Caine, when it's clear Caine is almost 40 years older than Damon in the movie.

No, he needed to be young because time didn't pass the same way as on earth. He would only have been gone for a short period of time compared to the time that passed on earth. To make him old would be to break the continuity.

But I thought his character was highly unnecessary. There is enough tension without adding an almost deus ex machina device in Damon to add more. Add to that the fact that Damon figuratively shits the bed with the limited role and that entire portion of the film is just bad. Which is a real shame because, but-for that portion, I think it's probably Nolan's best work or at least on par with Memento.

IMO, they should have scrapped the character entirely and figured something else out. The rationale of the character made no damn sense and was a wasted opportunity.
