Pretty desperate or low tactic.

Not saying they aren't crazy, just that I can't accept the doc as valid. . .the movie was designed to make them look crazy.
I've been to a lot of pentecostal church services. I challenge you to go in there with a camera and make a 1-hour+ documentary that DOESN'T make them look crazy. I don't think it can be done.

your particular level of zealotry.

There are just as many batshit crazy loony left occupiers and WTO hippies- but the difference is I can admit it.
I am just also willing to point out that a video designed to make them look batshit insane, is not a credible evidence of such.
No different than Farenheit 911 or that D'nesh Obama movie.
Are they batshit insane? Maybe.
But the movie only proves that to people who believed that before watching it. . .

Kind of a given with the "charismatic" label.

So this movie can only be viewed in the proper perspective if you have never heard of the concept of religous zealotry or do we need to see this film from their own perspective (self-shot) to get the real story? What are you saying exactly? This film is only true to people who are ready and waiting to laugh at crazy religious types and finally have a chance to do so?

quote:. . .if you hold the same views/opinions as the documentary makers.
So this movie can only be viewed in the proper perspective
That is the point I am making. And the point is obvious to pretty much anyone.
Except you, I suppose.
I guess you see this as an honest, objective expose'. . .
. . .I bet you think Expelled was an honest, objective look at evolution?
Or Religulous was an unbiased look at religion?
C'mon, man.
Agenda-driven documentaries usually derive the response they seek.
I guarantee you I could take a camera into the same camp these guys did, and come out with a documentary that makes the place look as normal as a trip to the grocery store.
But that wouldn't sell.

wasn't the preacher at the end the one who was caught smoking meth and fricking gay prostitutes?

Doesn't have to be objective to be correct. Even if the documentary is a Christian smear campaign it wasn't material pulled out of nothing. These crazy fricks exist and in sizable numbers.

Can't believe you can't see the difference between the two. It's painfully obvious. Did you watch expelled?

Maybe if you edit out essentially the entire trip. There wasn't a scene at that church that didn't make my fricking skin crawl. I mean seriously, this bitch has no problems telling them Harry potter should have been fricking executed. You could smell the crazy on her.

Doesn't have to be objective to be correct.
But it has to be objective to be credible.

quote:Both are documentaries made for the sole purpose of attacking something.
Can't believe you can't see the difference between the two.
quote:Yes. Almost as bad as Who Killed the Electric Car. . .
Did you watch expelled?
But at least on the level of Jesus Camp/Farenheit 911.
quote:No. But we don't know, because the only people who filmed it, were trying to humiliate them.
Maybe if you edit out essentially the entire trip.
quote:Because you are anti-theist. Your skin crawls when somebody says that God created everything.
There wasn't a scene at that church that didn't make my fricking skin crawl.
quote:He's a fictional character.
I mean seriously, this bitch has no problems telling them Harry potter should have been fricking executed.
I bet she said tons of very sane things. And I am not certain the quote came in context.
I don't defend the camp. I just think that the conclusions that are taken from the film are likely coerced by the filmmakers.
You can take a camera into anywhere, and make them appear however you decide.
Imagine taking a camera into an AA meeting. . .or anywhere.
Say, for example, you tell a joke. They cut out the punchline, making you look like whatever (a racist, a loon, or an idiot) the set up the joke leads. Or they cut out the set up and leave the punchline. . .and your co-workers laughing. . .making you ALL look like a bunch of loons or racists.
You honestly don't think that there could have been any editing to make these cats seem crazy?

But it has to be objective to be credible.
No it doesn't.
A group that hates Westboro Baptist church can film a documentary that doesn't display anything but westboro's full message and receive a desired outcome that is credible as a source of information about the church.
quote:
You can take things out of context through editing.
Obviously, but you seem to assert this is occurring without any evidence. In fact that she mentions the importance of training Christian children like Muslim children multiple times.
Am I supposed to believe this highlight reel of insanity that she repeats multiple times is the aberration simply because you told me so?
quote:
Both are documentaries made for the sole purpose of attacking something.
It is easy to prove the type of editing you accuse Jesus camp of in expelled. The whole movie might as all be a straw man. There is a laundry list of shortened quotes and misrepresented statements in that movie than can easily shown irresponsible. To consider them similar quality documentaries is absurd.
quote:
No. But we don't know, because the only people who filmed it, were trying to humiliate them.
Again you say this, but is asserted without factual evidence.
quote:
Because you are anti-theist. Your skin crawls when somebody says that God created everything.

quote:
I bet she said tons of very sane things.
I'm sure she did too. It doesn't excuse her from saying crazy and irresponsible things to children either.
quote:
You honestly don't think that there could have been any editing to make these cats seem crazy?
Absolutely., but ultimately she says too many insane things for me to consider the entire thing a hack job.

Don't understand why you would think I am some radical militant atheist. I have a great deal of respect for several of the christian posters on the poliboard including yourself, and I'm in no way anti-god. I simply think its absurd to suggest an atheist can't watch a documentary with an open mind.

This movie truly horrifies me I know it's objective but still can't believe this happens.
