does that redeem Dan and Dave any in the eyes of the very vocal critics?

I mean, I can't imagine them not going through these details with George and just guessing it out.

Aegon isn't Jon in the books, so I dont see how the books end the same.

Some random guy on Reddit said that D&D chose Arya and not GRRM and I believe him

Pretty sure Arya doing what she did was always the plan. The writers confirmed they knew at least 3 years ago around when the book material ended and George RR Martin handed over his high level outlines

And if you go back and watch her story it’s pretty clear this was always going to be her thing

His name may not be Aegon but he is most definitely the legitimate child of Rhaegar and Lyanna.

And an annulled marriage to Elia would make the real Aegon, if he did survive, a bastard.

So, Jon is still the rightful heir.

No, the same group of people will shite on them no matter what. Those posters are the ones who think they know way more about the story than Dan and Dave who only spent years with George working on the show and going over all the details of the story.

Was really fun in season five watching them bitch about Stannis burning his daughter and hearing them say book Stannis would never ever do that, only to find out George was the one who told Dave and Dan that's what Stannis was going to do. So they had to fall back to, well George will do it differently and it'll be cool then.

The same handful of posters complain pretty much every episode and how it sucks now that there is no source material. Just ignore them. If they want to be miserable, so be it. The rest of us will enjoy the show.

I'm telling you now, this whole fricking storyline was developed in front of Hollywood focus group.

This shite was pandering to the people who need to see a nice tidy happy ending with a bow on it.

I thought I was fricking watching lord of the rings or fricking Harry Potter some shite.

All you dull frickheads that want to see jon snow ruling justly and fairly on the iron throne. You're gonna get what you want.

You're leaving out George's line about the circumstances being very different

I think you could’ve done largely the same episode but have Arya die along with the NK or Brienne sacrifice herself for Jaime, or SOMETHING that made the main characters seem less invincible and you’d have a lot less complaining. Bring in the actual white walkers into the battle...at least have them show their faces. If George ever writes the books I’m sure it won’t be pure fan service of invincible characters.
