Excellent movie; Clint Eastwood's best in awhile IMO. The actor who played Richard Jewell was outstanding. Kudos also to Sam Rockwell and Kathy Bates. Jon Hamm is also good as a smug FBI agent.

The film, which has gotten good reviews by critics but is getting pilloried by some in the media, is a faithful retelling of the real-life events from the 1996 Olympics bombing in Atlanta and the aftermath in the life of the security guard who found the bomb. The movie makes the media and the FBI look very bad, compeletely deserved IMO.

Highly recommended

I’ve seen it twice already. It’s phenomenal and some of the best acting performances I’ve seen in a movie based on a true story in a long time.

Also, as someone who grew up in North Georgia, they nailed Atlanta in the 90’s. All the way down to the 96 Rock sticker on Jewell’s truck.

I thought it was pretty good, I’m just not on the same page as those saying it was great or excellent. The performances from Hauser, Rockwell and Kathy Bates were great and carried the movie. Outside of that I felt it was a fairly dry and basic movie (much like Eastwood’s last few movies). But I did enjoy seeing a story like this being told

Good, not great. Around a 7/10 for me

This. So much nostalgia from the 96 Rock sticker to the old school 13WMAZ and 11 Alive mics.

I was in Olympic Centennial park this weekend. I looked but didn’t see anything about Richard Jewell in the park as far as a monument goes. There should be one - dudes a damn hero.

In all honesty, the next big Hollywood death that will really impact our movie going experience will be Clint Eastwood.

Since he's gone to being more of a director he has turned out extremely watchable movies one after the other.

We need another 30 years of Eastwood as a director. He does small stories better than anyone else right now.

I saw it yesterday as well. A good movie with a good cast.
I thought the girl that played the newspaper reporter was good.
She was really easy to dislike.

Sam Rockwell was good as george w. bush in that movie about dick cheney

Olivia Wilde played the reporter

IRL the reporter died in 2001 of a drug overdose; acute morphine toxicity

Richard Jewell exemplified the best in us.

He was a good man to his core.

I thought it was a great performance. The media may not like it bc Clint takes them to the shed. The theater I was in clapped at the end.
My wife and I clapped. The other three people in the the theater didn't. Of course I live in Los Angeles. The other three were probably unemployed journalists.

Watched it tonight with the wife. I asked after the movie was over, if she was told by the media that Jewel was the bomber, what would your thoughts be? She said she would have believed them. I was able to make her understand why the media could never be trusted. It was an awesome movie and gave an outstanding view of how easy it is for the media to trick us. That man was is a hero and it is horrible that he had to endure what he did.

I through a series of strange occurances saw this movie. I thought it was ok but wasnt really blown away by it. I think there was ample amount of background evidence on Jewell that made him fit the profile of a suspect. He was very lucky he was overweight and couldnt cover the ground between the public phones and the bomb ignition site or he would have been convicted.

um i think "exemplified the best in us" is a bit much. He had some issues and everyone was lucky the bomb bag got moved by the kids so it exploded up and not directly into the crowd.

Being from Georgia, and having a relative that was a State Trooper some 100 feet from the bombing, this seemed like yesterday’s news to me. Great movie and some great acting. The hell with the backlash it had when it hit theaters.

But it’s absolutely horrible how the media and feds railroaded RJ. The 96 Olympic bombings were horrible, but they completely wrecked the lives of the Jewell family. Sad day for Georgians and the World Games. I hope Kathy Scruggs and all the feds and AJC involved all lost and continue to lose sleep about this until they die. Absolutely pathetic example of how the media and law enforcement can ruin people on a hunch. It’s just sickening to remember it all again.

EDA: also frick Eric Robert Rudolph

I worked at a competing rock station at the time. Back then, DJs all had portable radios in the control rooms and we listened to what the other stations were playing, played music off of what they were playing and made sly comments off of what our fiercest competitors were saying.
Good times.
