I really liked Wonka, but it requires a sequel if it wants to be true to the original.

The movie did a great job of nailing his crazy, quirky, goofy side.
The thing that doesn't line up is his attitude towards other people. In the new Wonka movie he's very naive and loves everyone.
In the original, Wonka is a recluse that has almost completely given up on humanity.
The question is, did they contrast this for more sequels to show how he gets that way, or was this just the Hollywood rainbow squad taking a shite on another original character.
If they're planning on going forward showing how he becomes disgusted with people I'm all in, but I fear this was a one off where they just disregarded who the main character actually is.
Keep in mind, that the original Wonka seemed to take pleasure when his factory was harming children. There's a big gap between the attitude of the new and the OG.

You don't need
Film to see
Use your own imagination

In prequels like this where they add diversity that doesn't exist in that universe's future... would love to see how they explain that.
Genocide? Mass death? Did they evolve into something else?

Not everything needs an explicit backstory.
Who gives a shite about Willy's journey to being an narcissistic shut in? That's not the fricking point of the book/story/movie.
As much as I love serials (and I do), this modern need to know every fricking detail of a character's life (that was meant to be a caricature) is disturbing.
make it up in your head or write some degenerate fanfic about Willy and the Oompa Loompas like semi normal people.

Who cares? It is a great film. Took the whole family from 3 generations, everyone enjoyed it.

well it aligns perfectly with who the gene wilder wonka was like, the new wonka was a bad movie that did its own thing.

Don’t know why you can’t see it Ham. King is showing you the Easter eggs. It all lines up, plain as day, they are literally telling you what is going to happen. Any moron can see it. ;)
