So basically the Raptors sneak on the boat, start killing the crew, the TRex somehow gets loose and starts killing crew (and Raptors?), locks itself in the cargo hold, and somehow the boat crashes into the dock with the TRex being the only living thing on the boat.

Initially, it was probably supposed to have raptors and rex in San Diego. The raptors kill the boat crew and the rex escapes when they get to San Diego. Raptors and rex destroy and kill.
What they gave us was a magic, sneaky rex that escapes, kills the crew without damaging anything, and then locking himself back into the hold.

I guess they weren't comfortable with more raptor and T-rex mayhem/eat each other since that ended the original.

But there would have been so much insane carnage!
Could you imagine a pack of raptors AND a T-Rex in a major metropolitan area? Not sure the local police would be able to control them that well.

Roland was the best thing about 2

The 2nd book was by far my favorite.

JP 3 was better than 2
Dude no.
JP3 was the biggest pile of shite imaginable.
At least the Lost World had some darkness to it. The initial Island scenes were pretty badass with the RV going over the cliff, the scene in the field and the search party etc.

Also what is the deal with Ian Malcolm being like 100% a completely different character between 1 and 2?
He was completely badass in 1 and totally sucked arse in number 2. I realize the experience would make him weary but does anyone else agree? It was ridiculous.
I read the books a long time ago but pretty sure Malcolm died in the original of gangreen in the original. Maybe thats why?

Well yeah... Chrichton wasn't even gonna write a 2nd book to begin with until he was pressured to because of the success of the first movie.
Malcolm died in the first book because of his injuries and Hammond was killed by compys after breaking his ankle (I think, unless he broke his leg completely).
Malcolm in the 2nd book is noticeably more serious and pessimistic (not that he wasn't already pessimistic to begin with).

The Lost World took a wild turn from the plot in the book. I don't think the San Diego thing was even supposed to happen.
It wasn't.
I never understood why they basically forced MC to write a book sequel and then promptly disregarded massive chunks of it while including major changes that really didn't make sense.

yea, I think the 2nd book opens with Malcom saying something about how he had died on the operating table but was resuscitated.
I also really disliked that SS changed the lawyer in JP1 into a total sleaze ball from the bad arse that damn near saves everybody just so he could get some cheap lawyer jokes in there. It was also lame that he had Hammond live instead of being killed by his own creations. Instead of Hammond paying for his mistakes (which he claims people should have to do) we got a the typically schmaltzy Spielberg sentimentality.
Even as a 12 year old kid I was like "WTF? Y U wreck the point of the character?"

I get the San Diego arc, it was bound to happen at some point, but it was seriously poorly done.
An embryo making it to a rogue scientist's lab would be much more plausible than that boat nonsense.

Yeah book John Hammond and movie John Hammond were way different.
Goldbloom was actually cool in the first one. They just made him a lame skeptical dad in the second one. It was pretty depressing.

Didn't LW the book have 2 kids instead of 1 in the movie? Also, I may be mistaken, but neither of the 2 kids were Malcolm's at all.
Good lord, the more I think about it, they completely destroyed the Book plot in the movie.

Which could be the plot for a Jurassic World sequel with Wu's embryos in an Ingen Lab, on the US mainland.
