That literally came from an official movie review on The Witch. Smh.

I guess I should be a movie critic because I haven't read a legit movie review in my 25 years on this planet.

Ah yes, increase the gore, the modern day answer to how to make a movie scary

The only point I agree on is that the bonfire scene should have had a bit more. Wouldn't need much. I think when they zoomed out on her at the top of the tree, it should have zoomed out to where you could see four small feet on the bonfire and cut there.

I never said you did. Merely you completely misinterpreted my post. Just like you misinterpreted this one you replied to.

You misinterpreted me again. I don't think it should've been gory to be gory...but rather it should've shown more disturbing imagery to inject energy into the painfully slow and slightly disturbing story.

If a story is painfully slow to the point where it may lose the audience's attention, the director is obligated to inject energy into the story.

You can artfully increase the gore without going overboard. Gore, done right, if very effective. With this movie it would've been extremely effective.

Lol no movie in their right mind is going to show on camera an infant being diced up.

Some of the unseen aspects are what made it scary. It left something to the imagination, which I liked.

The phrase "in the same way" means you are comparing it to the shining. It means you are saying one IS LIKE the other. That is a comparative.

But yeah, we are the ones with the "comprehension" problem....

Definition: also, similarly
Synonyms: additionally, along, as well, besides, correspondingly, further, furthermore, in addition, in like manner, in the same way, more, moreover, so, too, withal

Whatever helps you sleep at night....

I enjoyed The Witch because of the overall tone of the film. It had a very bleak feeling, the family's situation seemed so hopeless. I do agree it was not scary, but I did find it eerie. I also found it difficult to understand the dialect, but appreciated its accuracy.. And Black Philip should be nominated for an Oscar.

Let's just step off the bandwagon for a moment and admit that this movie was neither scary or creepy. It was just a slow movie with a few odd scenes sprinkled in.

Taste is subjective. I could wear myself out telling you why I absolutely loved this movie and arguing all your points to the point of exhaustion. But it doesn't matter because taste is subjective.

To me, this scene was absolute horror movie perfection.

The perfect "oh shite" moment when you think she's just gone crazy.

Very good point. One of the most artistically pleasing horror movies I've seen that wasn't trying too hard. And the way they handled the Puritan lifestyle was done very well and not in a "let's attack Christianity" kind of way.

The soundtrack really made this movie for me. I probably jumped more at Paranormal Activity than I did for The Exorcist, but that doesn't mean PA is scarier than The Exorcist.

Again, totally subjective.

By for me, The Witch makes a strong case to be in my Top 5, which includes The Shining, The Amityville Horror, The Descent, Night of the Living Dead (1991), The Exorcist, The Thing, and Halloween.

Not sure whether to include Jaws and Aliens in a list of horror, but they'd be there.

Of course you replying to someone with the fricktarded "LOLOLOLOL" makes me wonder if you really want discussion or if you just want to troll up a thread.

Just more of everything we didn't see.

The horror comes from the imagination and filling in the gaps. They don't need to show us a baby being processed and mashed to paste.

You want to be spoon fed information. That's on you, not the film.

Yes, in the style of horror. That doesn't mean they are comparable in quality at all. Not a difficult concept.
