How to cut the cord and miss nothing
Posted on 2/4/16 at 8:47 am

After much research, I finally chose to cut the cord. I am a week into it, and so far it is working great. What's the secret to success?
KODI
It took me a while to figure it all out (install and using it), but now that I have it running I am not missing out on anything.
For those who are interested, I suggest looking into this app. I believe it is only available on Amazon FireTV, so you would need that device.
Once you get KODI installed, you download "channels" within the app. These channels are created by different programmers, and they give you access to different movies, tv shows and pretty much anything else. There are channels that give you live tv streams as well (I believe it's out of Pittsburgh).
I have been watching CNN, FOX News, ESPN, Food Network and others with little issues. The main flaw is that these streams get taken down after a while, and you have to wait for a new one to pop up. To me, it's worth the hiccups, because I'm tired of paying my $135/month DirectTV bill.
If any of you out there know more ways for me to maximise my Cord Cutting, I am all ears. I'm looking to make this as efficient as possible. To those of you teetering on the edge of a decision, I hope this info helps you make up your mind.

What about legally?

I'm with you, bro. I'm so happy now that I plugged the spigot. I stopped buying gasoline, and save myself a ton of money. Now I just siphon gas from company drivers at the local truck stop. Life is beautiful...
You want a pat on the back for cutting the cord, but you are supplementing it by stealing. It may not feel like stealing to you, but it is. You have failed to grasp the spirit, philosophy, and purpose of 'cord cutting.' Grats!

I cut the cord. I also have a friend's login information so that I don't miss ESPN, Disney, all that stuff. Until these providers figure out how to curb this password sharing thing, which doesn't seem all that hard a thing to do, this will continue.
I also password share with my GF with Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and HBO Now. Sue me.

So you didn't cut the cord. Color me unimpressed... Suit filed.

You can call it what you want, but I'm no longer paying $140/month for a bunch of balogny I don't need.
If you are on some high and mighty soap box about how you "cut the cord" to not be reliant on television and entertainment, then I think maybe we're in this thread for different reasons.

Mr. Sad Banana, do you also sap your neighbors wifi?

KODI is a legal app. Nice try. On top of this I pay for Netflix, HULU and Amazon Prime. So again, nice try.
I won't get into a philosophical debate of the theft of the consumer by the monopolization of television content, so I'll leave my statement at that.
To anyone interested in the growing trend to cut the cord and stop giving your money to the thieves, my OP is an example of my experience and how I did it. To those who feel the ethics are inverse, I suggest you don't do it. Simple as that.

Instead of farting around with KODI, you can get HULU and watch all the shows you want the next day, and whatever isnt' there, which is mostly CBS shows, then you can just wait until the next day or week and watch it on the CBS app for free. If for whatever reason you have to watch your shows live, then this won't work obviously, but i've got two rugrats that make watching tv from 7-8-30 pretty difficult.
I'm testing my cord cutting this week. Got Slingtv and Hulu and an antenna. Already had Netflix and Prime.
Haven't had any problems watching what i normally watch. I can use a login for watchespn but i figured i'd try out Sling for 3 months so i could get the free Roku.
My biggest complaint is apps not supported by Android tv, like WatchESPN, ABC, NBC, FX and a few others. I was really liking the idea of having to just use my tv remote to access and control everything. Hopefully they quit being morons and get to working on getting everything up to date for it. I can cast watchespn from my tablet, but i'd rather the app be on the TV since i ran an ethernet to the tv for a more reliable connection. If i miss 1 second of an LSU football game i'll shite a brick.

I've got KODI on my Amazon Fire Stick, I have Ares Wizard and Beast both on there. I'm gonna need to know the best "channels" you've found though because some things I keep trying to watch will buffer for 5-10 minutes before I can get it going. That's if I find a decent stream.

Ah... My siphon tube is just a piece of rubber. Rubber is legal.
It's not simply about ethics... It's economics. You seem intelligent. Have you considered the cost spreading factor? How do businesses cover the cost of theft? You aren't paying them, but you steal from them and drive up the cost for others.
How do you cut the cord legally? Buy an over the air antenna. Pay for other services a la carte. Live without ESPN for now.

I do have HULU along with Netflix and Amazon Prime. I use all of them, depending on what I watch.
KODI is good so that I can watch live news. That's pretty much all I use it for personally, but others may find more use out of it. Like you, I don't get to watch TV shows live due to the kids causing a continual ruckus

1Channel and Phoenix are the two I find work the best. There are others I have installed, but I haven't tested them out much yet. Channel Pear is supposed to be good as well.
USTVNOW is one that streams live local channels. I believe they are out of Pittsubrgh. You can pay a subscription fee and get some of the popular cable channels (ESPN, FOX NEWS, Cartoon Network, CNN, etc). This is a great option that is still much cheaper than cable or satellite.

balogny
Since we are shitting on the OP....
Balogny is not a thing
---The bologna sausage is traditionally made from the “odds and ends” of chicken, turkey, beef, or pork. It is similar to the Italian mortadella, which originated in the Italian city of Bologna. The inexpensive deli meat is often pronounced and spelled “baloney.”---
And
---On to baloney: The slang word took off in the 1930s thanks to Alfred E. Smith, who served as the governor of New York four times and was the first Roman Catholic major party nominee to run for President. He frequently used the term “baloney” in reference to Washington bureaucracy.---

Oh and I have experimented with Kodi myself. I don't LOVE it. But I have a buddy who is DEEP in the Kodi app.
I still have Sling, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon prime with fire stick. I am a cord cutter.
