The exaggerated accents kind of annoy me but you should definitely give it a watch.

I love how people always point this out, but people in LA have terrible accents. Oh people dont talk like that... Actually, they do.

Just watched the pilot.

This could be an all time great.

Can't wait for next week.

I really didn't think they did a poor job with the accents in the pilot. Trueblood has far worse exaggerations of LA & MS.

Especially that old guy in his front yard. One of the best South LA accents I have ever heard on a show.

It was a quality pilot.
As for the accents, they sounded authentic. I'm from the area they were in and we speak with more of a Texas drawl than a Cajun accent.
MM is from Longview which isn't too far from Shreveport. Perfect casting choice.
Some of y'all are making it sound like a Coen bros knockoff where the accents are embellished. Not so at all.

I always assumed True Blood's accents were intentionally over the top, like everything else about the show.

MM was on ESPN's SVP and Rusillo today discussing True Detective (among other things). MM lent an interesting nugget about the show in that he was originally approached to play the role now played by Woody Harrelson. After reading the script, MM felt the Rusty character was more intriguing and something beyond what he was comfortable playing in the past. So he told the show makers he was in if they wanted him as Rusty. Woody was of course fine with just playing the other guy I'm sure.
