I see the thread about the fight, but has it ever been over analyzed here?

If so, link?

No.

It's a perfect movie.

Go buy some Calvin Klein underwear and leave us alone.

The movie is kind of analyzed in real time though. The parents and kids are presented as they actually are. Wouldn’t take much time.

Wasn't that more common in the old days?

I couldn't do it now. A woman 20 years younger would make me want to jam a pencil in my ear. Too much drama/immaturity in most cases.

Just looked it up, she's 81 now. Which means she was in her mid 40's when Christmas Story was filmed.

Melinda Dillon.

And she shares the same hometown as President Clinton. Hope, Arkansas

I always imagined her with a huge bush even had hair growing from her thighs.

Looking at IMDB, the year the story takes place is either 1939 or 1940. The actual year is conflicting due to attempts to force nostalgia into the story line. Ralphie is 9 in the story and would have been born around 1930. Assuming the old man didn't waste any time, he would have started dating the mother in late 1928 or early 1929, about the time of the onset of the great depression. The actor who played the old man was 61 at the time of the movie. If this is an accurate portrayal of the old man, we can assume he was about 50 when he started courting the mother. I don't think it would have been that unusual to see such a pairing during this time period especially considering WW1 and the great depression.

Maybe an over analysis is called for...

would be 20 years old. I’d sell my soul for some sweet skittle-tasting 20yr old thang

Interesting. I always assumed it was set just after WW2.

Have you seen Slap Shot? If you haven't, you should. It'll make you drop the "kinda". And it's probably the funniest sports movie ever made.

It's also one of the few times that the movie turned out better than the book.

The apparent age difference also helps to explain the mother’s jealousy of the leg lamp. She thinks she’s being replaced by a younger, more attractive model, albeit inanimate.

I’m watching it, again, right now.
