My favorite movie character is Ben Stiller in his villain comedy character. Happy Gilmore, Heavy Weights, Dodgeball. That persona and voice he does cracks me up.

name 5 tyler perry movies as good as happy gilmore, billy madison, The waterboy, Big Daddy, and The Wedding Singer.
Tyler Perry sucks and I couldn't even name 1
This may be the greatest argument post in TD history. Bravo.
My only critique is you should have also added Little Nicky.

When compared to similar movies (long-awaited nostalgic comedy sequels), Happy Gilmore 2 may be one of the best of the bunch.
Most other similar sequels are flat out terrible and the Rotten Tomatoes scores reflect that. Happy Gilmore 2 is currently floating around 75% audience score and 65% critic score.
In recent years, the only other similar movie that I could think of that was generally well received was Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.

The early reviews so far have been "it was fantastic" or "steaming pile of shite." Nothing in between.
“It was fantastic” is likely from guys that loved Happy Gilmore as teenagers like myself.
I really like the first Happy Gilmore, this sequel was not that good.

I agree. But I did read on IMDB
"There were plans for Carl Weathers to return as Chubbs before his death in 2024. Adam Sandler said, "We had a painful change. Carl Weathers had a massive part. I would talk to Carl, and we were excited, and then Carl passed away. We had to rewrite a lot of the stuff, and even what the story was. We made a lot of nice references to how great Chubbs was in the movie. That was the biggest change."
So I can't help to wonder if it would've been better with the original movie idea.

It was slapstick with a bunch of nostalgia. I enjoyed it.
We just decided to watch it tonight. It was everything I would’ve wanted from a Sandler movie sequel:
- Got a ton of the previous movie’s crew that was available.
- A shite ton of actual pro golfers. Who clearly enjoyed the gig (the Scheffler stuff was amazing).
- Sandler’s family involved, which is cool.
- A ton of random celebrity cameos.
Also, Margaret Qualley did an interview where she talked about how she landed the gig. She’s a huge Happy Gilmore fan and when she heard they were making it back channeled pretty hard to get in. Apparently Sandler’s folks reached out to her husband (producer Jack Antonoff) and he lied and said she was a good golfer to get her in. To try to not look like a complete idiot she took golfing lessons for months.
