Still a better choice than Julia Roberts was.
waaaaaaay better.

Not a fan of her as an actress, but have no phenotype hangup with the role.

Waiting for them to make an openly gay Hook or Peter. You know it's coming.

Why is it okay for a black actor to be considered for traditionally white characters, but not the other way around?

IKR?

Why isn’t there a “White History Month”?

Why isn’t there “White Entertainment Television”?

We have “Latin Grammys” and “Soul Train Awards”. Why not “Dixie Music Awards”?

When will white people ever get a seat at the table?

Truth. At best, it simply means anything but white. Why white people are ok with it, I’ll never understand.

They just keep crapping all over their own properties.

I wonder if the remake will have any Native Americans in it, or if that isn't the right kind of "diversity" they're looking for?

Yep, now the trades are reporting Hawkman will be played by the black dude in The Invisible Man.

Really? Wouldn't an Arabic person make more sense for that role? Like...weren't Hawkman and Hawkwoman supposed to be ancient Egyptians?

ETA: If the goal is diversity, why remove diversity already built into the story?

Paul Mooney : [reviewing "The Last Samurai"] First, they have "The Mexican" with Brad Pitt, now they have "The Last Samurai" with Tom Cruise. Well, I've written a film, maybe they'll produce my film. The Last N**** on Earth, starring Tom Hanks. How about that?

Every time this topic is brought up I can’t help but think of this bit.

Portraying him as a black male and/or women makes it a COMPLETELY different character. One that isn't "James Bond" as created by Ian Fleming
But does that matter?

remember reading that Brazil was the country with the most visitors to Disney outside the US. Epcot was going to do a Brazil pavilion but it’s been delayed. The country fits the bill for the construction

Based off what I saw at Disney last October, this is 100% accurate. Those women were bioengineered for yoga pants and bikinis.

Tinker bell did have a little bit of an olive complexion so a Mediterranean girl or even a cute Israeli girl could have pulled it off. Hell maybe even a Brazilian woman because they have a lot of Portuguese ancestry mixed in down there, but yeah outright black? No thank you.

I didn’t mind black Nick Fury or black Perry White because they are small supporting roles and the actors in question both fit the roles and had skins on the wall, but yeah Disney is missing the mark here.

Actually having good actors in the role is the biggest thing. I don’t care if James Bond is a black woman if the person can crush the role. If it’s forced with someone subpar it will feel out of place and a suck.

Plot twist: Hook has a gay pedo fling with Peter and goes on a murderous rampage when Peter decides to leave him for Wendy.

- Peter Pan was one of those stories which I always found weird. Even as a kid. I never got it.

- Tinkerbell is , as I recall, so white she's almost transparent ( not that kind of trans, dammit )

- I don't have D +, so I'll be spared.

Having said all that, her pic does make her look a bit fairy -ish. So, I guess ? Don't really care.

If she’s a talented actress who plays the role well and the story is good along with the other characters, this is fine. A good movie is a good movie.

But it’s tough to not be skeptical when priority number one is the skin color of the cast and not characters, dialogue, and story.

Lol no. Being a sauve British man is by far the most important aspect of that role.

Priority number one wasn't hiring an in-house actress popular enough to warrant her own successful, multi-season spin-off show of a popular sitcom? Feels like this was an easy business decision for Disney.
