I love John Williams for scoring movies. Most of my favorite movie scores are his.

Star Wars
Jurassic Park
Schindler's List (that violin solo.....)
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
JFK

Other scores that are not by Williams that I think are wonderful are:
Pirates of the Caribbean
Purple Rain
Crazy Heart (Jeff Bridges is superb)

this market is cornered

Raiders of the Lost Ark

Star Wars (the version of the original score they play during the trench run...epic)

Empire Strikes Back (hands down the best, built upon the original score but added the iconic "imperial march", and my personal favorite was boba fett's music in cloud city.)

Jurassic Park

E.T.

Gladiator

Jaws

Temple of Doom

Halloween (and to think john carpenter came up with this himself on a piano with a couple of keys)

The Phantom Menace (it's too bad the movie sucked because the score was crazy good, better than jedi)

The Dark Knight

there are so many, but really John Williams owns this category and Hans Zimmer is his robin

now if we're including musicals, then the Wizard of Oz gets on here easily. Other scores I love

To Kill a Mockingbird
Ghostbusters
Batman
Gone with the Wind
Psycho
Lawrence of Arabia

Hans Christian Anderson
Oz
The Graduate
Psycho
Cool Hand Luke
Silver Streak
Jaws
Saving Private Ryan
The Shawshank Redemption
Apollo 13
The Thing
Halloween
The Exorcist
Home Alone

Saving Private Ryan's score always brings out the onions for me. Jesus what a haunting theme....

Shawshank might be my favorite.
I like Thomas Newman almost as much as Williams.

I agree with the classics mentioned.

For an honorable mention that isn't truly a score, I'd add Friday Night Lights by Explosions in the Sky. Though some was adapted from a prior album and there are a couple of other songs in the movie, the original/adapted work undoubtedly set the tone for that movie and carried into the TV series as well.

Conan the Barbarian. Every song fits perfectly with the movie. Only The Mission soundtrack is more integral to the movie than Conan.

Holy shite, how did I forget this one? Yes. This is the winner. Just hearing the Anvil of Crom makes me want to crush my enemies, see them driven before me and hear the lamentations of the women.

Not sure there is a better start to a score than

Anvil of Crom, Riddle of Steel, Riders of Doom.
