I truly believe that Jon has no aims at any throne.
Which is what makes him ending on it kind of the perfect GRRM twist-- this is a guy who walked away from Winterfell instead of going to KL, who took the Black rather than serve with Robb, who went beyond the wall and then broke off in a two man unit rather than fight and stay with the Watch, who broke from the woman he loved to save the wall, who risked his command to save the Wildings at Hardhome, who left the Lord Commanders post to wander the world and who had to be talked into re-taking Winterfell-- and he's going to have to take the throne to unite Westeros and save the world even though all he seems to want to do is hang out with his family and friends and enjoy a second chance at life.
I mean if after all of the scheming and the murders and the betrayal the guy who ends up with the prize is someone who doesn't want it-- that's fitting.

really am starting to think women will rule every kingdom. The media seems to be pushing for this too
Gross.
Women in this show/series have been proven to be rash, idiotic leaders. Especially when you think of men that came before them...Tywin, Greyjoy Sr, Martell, Ned...

I think it was most honorable for Jon to go attempt to get Rickon, even if it made zero military sense.

Also Ned couldve claimed the Iron throne for himself after roberts rebellion, and the world would probably be better for it. Would be fitting if Jon had the same choice and makes it differently than his uncle

They'd go right by it, definitely not across it but those numbers would be hard to hide and harder to explain. I'm just saying if the Freys asked him what he was doing and he showed Tommen's decree, it would be a relatively short conversation.

I read someone's theory before the episode (not sure if it was here) that LF's army would come in and save Jon but also kill all of the wildlings.
I think that would have been a pretty cool way to go about it.
The chances that LF was able to kill the Wildlings and not get a taste of Longclaw after all Jon went through to save them is like 0%-- he kills the Wildlings and Jon will cut through Sansa to get him.

I would think that any brother would ride out to try and save his brother
the zero military sense came afterwards

Thats more emotional than honorable. Neds shortcoming was expecting everyone else to have the same honor as he does. Jons knew ramsey was going to try to kill rickon, but it was his brother and he had to try to save him.

Nights King is going to change a lot of conceptions about people
The only people that care about that are the clergy of Rh'llor, Jon, Sam, Davos and the wildlings. Until the southerners even look north, it is a secondary concern in their affairs. The fact that it should be the primary concern is of no moment.
Hell, they're going to have to convince LF and young Robert to even mobilize to the wall in the first place. They think the battle is over now that Sansa holds Winterfell.
ETA: Even Dany thinks the real fight is going to be at King's Landing.
All of which strengthens my belief that Jon either ends up on the throne or dies in some sort of Messianic Sacrifice.

The reluctant ruler from humble beginnings isn't a twist, it's a trope. Especially when you throw in the unknown high parentage. shite goes back to Moses, and even further back to Luke Skywalker. No way Jon ends up the throne, the last thing they need is a know-nothing king.

Jon isn't very good as a battlefield commander. He abandoned his plan, ran off by himself, and left his army without a leader. Davos and Tormund then had to make decisions on the fly. Without LF riding in at the last minute his entire army would have been wiped out.
2v2 only as leaders on a battlefield: Ramsey was better than Jon.
He wasn't good tactically here (his overall strategy was sound) on the upside there's not too many more Starks that they can use to bait him and when family isn't on the line he's pretty bad assed-- see the Battle of the Wall or the evacuation of Hardhome.

Perhaps but it also was very in character for Jon. Jon cares for his family and people in general. He would gladly die for them while Ramsay would not. It is part of what makes him a good leader as he is easy to get behind.
I really, really thought they might go belated GNC after his speech and Ramsey's decision to open fire on his own troops while Davos refused to do the same-- like SMU would just turn on Ramsey and leave the field.

m most curious about what's going to happen to the red titty witch.
she seems like a pretty pointless character right now
I wouldn't be surprised if she killed herself
she has served her purpose
Interesting call-- also if you look at the back legends of Azhor Azhai-- an act of self-sacrifice where she let's Jon kill her with Longclaw would pretty much lock in the last part of the prophecy.

Would have been so fricking cool if when small Jon Umber was screaming who owns the north, his people said Stark and starting butt raping Ramsey's circle line from the rear.
