I had to read about it in this thread so someone else could connect the dots. Who the frick pays that close attention to "background music?" much less the words?
BTW, I just rewatched the scene with Cersei and Maergery and the song isn't even playing (maybe a note or two for a few seconds...maybe), and she only mentions a line or two of lyrics to her.
So there was really no way of knowing what song the band started playing (based off of the discussion with Cersei and Maergery last episode). So all the people getting all "THEY TALKED ABOUT THE SONG IN THE LAST EPISODE, HODOR IDIOTS!!!" can go frick themselves.

I don't know how this last episode is gonna top the wedding day massacre.

Cersei told us the story when she was talking to Margery the other day. But before that, a bunch of drunks were singing it in a pub one night. Pretty sure it was Tyrion's buddy.

after episode 9 last season it was the closing credit song

Sweet! I came here to post about the Reynes of Castamete too!! Just figured out that its basically a Lannister Victory Song, celebrating the total destruction of the House of Reynes. Geez, I have to pay better attention.

You're right, BUT, early on in this thread (or the middle ground?) someone posted the YouTube link to the song. I didn't think it was spoilers, but its what made me recognize the tune as soon as it came on.

Bronn singing with Lannister soldiers before Blackwater
Credits of Blackwater
Thoros singing it when Arya meets Brotherhood Without Banners
Ending of Bear and the Maiden Fair
I'm not saying I disagree with you, because I think more emphasis should've been placed on it so that people would instantly know. feel like they missed the target in that regard. they should've played it after cersei told margaery about it. I guess if people have seen the episodes multiple times, they couldve figured out that it has an association with the lannisters.

stupid Robb just sat there on the ground beside wifey. At least Cat made a last ditch effort.
He was bleeding out. That is why he was slow to speak when uttering his last words to his mother.

It's not "background" music.
It made a recurrent appearance in story since the second season.
Even if you didn't pick up on it as a clue, if you didn't know bad shite was about to go down when that song was played....
Well not much there is to say, except any deflection is nothing more than a rationalization.
On a related note, if folks care to hear the song with lyrics:

yea, i was thinking that it had to have been played in an instrumental version at some point bc I just went back an watched the pub scene and while they are singig it in harmony, there are no instruments playing along with them.
Eta: However, I will say that if there is one thing that True Blood taught me, it's to pay attention to the songs bc they usually pertain to the feelings of a character or they are foreshadowing something. So had I not already been prepped from TB to pay attention to music, I would be village idiot this week like SFP, Cocomo and Stu!

I know it's occurred in the show before...I'm talking about the "last episode" comments. All she did was explain some of the song to Maergery to scare the shite out of her, which she then followed up with her threat of "call me sister again and I'll have you strangled in your sleep."

oh yeah the song itself is a "you're fricked" song regardless. once the doors closed, you should have known bad shite was coming

I pay close attention although I watch each episode only once and don't read about the show on any forum outside of this one. I had no idea what that song was about or it's significance until I read it here after watching.
