As far as where we are with Jon's parentage with regard to the book/show, not theories.
Cersei and Catelyn both believe Jon Snow's mother to be someone who has not been introduced on the show yet, either in person or by name. That person could have committed suicide, body wasn't found. Other details about this lady will come in later book/season from another character.
However, Arya Stark is told by Edric Dayne that Jon Snow's mother is Wylla, the same name that came up between Robert & Ned in season 1. Arya at first didn't believe him, but he swears on the honor of his house that he is telling the truth. Arya makes a promise to herself to tell Jon Snow his mother's name.
Psych- how long(pages) was last year's thread?

a bastard can be legitimized just like Ramsay Snow is now Ramsay Bolton. that's why Joff had all the Baratheon bastards killed. lessen the claim to the thrown.
