It's possible, right?
My only counterpoints would be:
1) From all accounts, a lot of Robert's bastards were well taken care of (ex: the whore he knocked up on the show mentions it, in the books we know of bastards that are in the care of high lords/ladies, etc). I don't think that would be exclusively a Lannister point.
2) As said, we know that Jon Arryn visited him from Gendry's own mouth. Jon was very close with Robert having essentially fostered him. I sincerely doubt he wouldn't report that back to Robert.
3) The Lannisters wouldn't be so dumb as to hide him in the city of Kings Landing. Not when we know by history that anytime a Lannister and Baratheon has bred together, they develop the physical characteristics of a Baratheon.

did the cersei stuff go down in the books like it did in the show?

It is possible, but aside from what others have pointed out.
Robert's oldest bastard was born prior him and Cersi marrying. Mya Stone, she lives in Vale, he wanted to bring him to King's Landing but Cersi said it wouldn't be safe to keep a royal bastard in the capital.
If that theory was true Cersei wouldn't have kept him in King's Landing.
you assume wrong, but it could have been meant to look that way

As in confessing to Tywin? I'm not 100% sure but I don't think it did. Cersei doesn't get a point of view until book 4, and Tywin never had one.

Nah. That theory isn't possible. Cersei force aborted Robert's child, and then demanded his head. It was Varys that was the one who was looking out for him, and I'm sure it was just in case he needed to quickly dispose of the Illegitimate Baratheon bloodline.

I like kashonly's theory about Gendry:
he's King Hodor

Wow that's pretty surprising

She's really not in too many scenes in these seasons without Ned, Sansa, Tyrion, or Jaime being present.

does he actually leave with Tyrion in the books? I know everyone says he pretty much disappears after this, but i feel like if he leaves with Tyrion, youd still see him then.

Yeah I believe he stays with him until they get off the boat
Posted on 6/16/14 at 8:19 pm to BlacknGold
No. He's supposedly creeping around the depths of King's Landing. Everyone knows he's the only one who could truly bail Tyrion out and that he has a soft spot for him. I can see where they'll take his character though and that it won't interfere with his overall arc.
