Hated the ending.
This. Wasn't this a book also? I heard the book was different than the ending of the movie.

Was a book, same ending. The next book in the series dealt with the fallout between the 2 detective characters. The case is revisited several years later in Moonlight Mile when the girl goes missing again.

This is one of my favorites also. There is a book series based in these characters and even a follow up with the same kidnapped kid that takes place 15 or so years later. The books are by Dennis Lehane, the same guy that wrote Mystic River, and Afflek is attached to direct another movie based on one of his books. I think it's called Live By Night but I haven't read it.
The books are awesome. GBG is actually the fourth installment I believe. A Drink Before the War is the first, and it's unreal. The big white drug dealing friend of Kenzie's is a bigger character in the books, and he's fvcking AWESOME!
The dialogue and characters in the books is absolutely spot-on. Would love to see him continue to take from them. Lehane is one of my all-time favorite authors, just a genius.

Lehane is a great writer. Live by night is sort of a sequel to "the given day" Lehane's masterwork IMO and and epic story of Boston during the early 20th century.
I thought moonlight mile, the last book of the Kenzie/Genaro series was by far his weakest novel to date.

Agreed. I hope we get another Kenzie Genaro book.

The Given Day is beyond epic. The characters in his book are just so real.
