Saw this thread a few days ago then binged it. Great series. It was a bit slow, but I enjoy that type of series that fully explores a story. Excellent use of flashbacks to flesh out all of the major storylines fthat were alluded to from their pasts. Fantastic finale. At first I thought Jeff Daniels was an odd choice for a villain in a Western, but he was outstanding. And they certainly weren't afraid to kill off fairly major characters abruptly and unceremoniously. Would love to see more series in this genre. It's no Deadwood, but I enjoyed it more than Lonesome Dove.

I wont say its the most exciting thing I have ever seen but it was very well done.

Really want more quality series like this. I love a great mini series. No point in dragging it out when the story is told so good.

Would recommend.

Hard for me to compare because they're totally different shows. About the only thing they have in common is an Old West setting.

I wasn't meaning to suggest a direct comparison, because as you said they are very different. I just meant that, of shows in the Western genre, Deadwood falls into that upper echelon of series (the tier that includes shows like Lost, The Wire, Breaking Bad, GoT....). Godless isn't quite in that tier, but I enjoyed it very much. It's one of those pleasant surprises. You know that feeling...you've watched just about everything, you're trudging along through shows you enjoy but aren't quite binge-worthy, then out of nowhere you hear about a new series, blast through it in a couple days, then regret when it's over that you didn't make it last longer. Kinda like sex.

Yeah, I agree with that. Deadwood is a classic. I actually started a rewatch last night because of this thread.

I thought it was amazing. There were times when it felt like I was watching a 100 million dollar budget western at the theater

I'm 4-5 episodes in and pleasantly surprised. I'm not even a huge fan of westerns

Finished it today, and I'd put it up there with some of Netflix's best.

watched the whole series over the weekend. Loved this show.

Jeff Daniels is unrecognizable as Frank Griffin

Michelle Dockery does a great job, hides her British accent really well.Goes from shooting a guy to fricking him.

Town would have been destroyed if not for the mom turned lesbian.

The scene in Crete was pretty brutal.

What a great show! I was worried at the first episode that it would be too slow but that's not the case. The gun fight scene was fantastic. Show looked great in 4k too.

I finished it a few days ago. The first half of the series is much better than the second half. I had a couple of issues with the last few episodes. Some of which I will discuss...

and SPOILERS:

What they did to Whitey, the best fricking character in the show, was bullshite. What a pussy way to go out. Dude was a bad arse and went out with a whimper like a little bitch. I didn't understand the decision. By far the character I rooted for the hardest, and they didn't resolve his storyline properly. Some of the ladies in the hotel got shot like multiple times and made it out. He takes a little knife in the chest and he's done? fricking bullshite. Atleast let him get a shot off first. Damn Whitey.

One more complaint. The little Indian kid couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. Why'd he get so much screen time. Every line he said was torture.

Other than that, pretty solid.

yeah, i didn't like that. dude was one of the fastest guns there and didn't get off a single shot. And his GF is now completely alone with her brother. That sucked.

They wanted to kill him off like that 1) to remind you that no character was safe. I was sure they were going to let him and the black girl live for pc reasons. After him, I wasn't sure who was going to survive. And 2) to piss you off at the gang as if you weren't already for what they did in the first town and blackdom.

He got his redemption and respect. Not sure what else you wanted. As far as how he died, it was a little Indiana Jones-esque. The fancy gun play meant nothing.

Agree somewhat here. He was very flat for most of the show. I think he did a better job when the horse went down though and he had to show some emotion.

this show is fantastic.

I had my worries on Jeff Daniels as a villain, but he absolutely kills it.
