That's what the writer speculates but I don't think it's likely or possible but I also don't think it's likely or possible that 2nd set of killers was involved.

I always figured that during the day's celebrations someone associated with the killers (or who had hand in hiring them) came in and opened the drapes, and it was probably the same person who killed the killers (or had them killed). That person may or may not have been close to Michael, but he would have been close enough to the family to be invited to the party and not be determined as unusual that he was entering or leaving the house.
