The Murder Of Luca Brasi....this entire scene is so intense and sinister. Luca all dressed up and looking like the last guy in the world that anyone would want to F*with. Knife through the hand, strangled by a garrote, slowly dies and falls to the floor. Just great filmmaking.

A great scene.
My problem with the scene is mostly subjective, and I could be wrong. But it seems to have been intended as a Pearl Harbor moment, a sneak attack against a vital asset. Yet at that point in time, we just knew Luca was this big scary guy, not the Terminator as depicted in the book.
So to me it landed mostly as “wow they just killed the Carleone guy” not as much “wow the shits about to hit the fan!”
Also, Luca’s ruse seemed rushed, so it was like “of course they’re not going to believe the old “malcontent” angle coming from such a key figure in the family.”
But that’s more post-mortem that doesn’t really take away from it.

Michael killing McClusky. That whole scene is brilliant. Tension. Train noise. The lack of subtitles. It draws you in. You don’t speak Italian at all but you understand the conversation. Michael’s limited Italian is used perfectly to punctuate the scene. When needs absolute clarity and has to speak English. The realism of the shooting. He misses once shooting the cop in the throat causing a big fricking mess. He screws up everything Clemenza told him. Walks but then runs. Does get anyone in the head twice. Starts to drop the gun but throws it.

This scene was so perfect.
Sollozzo and McClusky were both larger than life in appearance and intimidating.
Mike - it’s not clear if he has the resolve to go through with it. You think so, but he also looks so weak, but then the thought that maybe that appearance was a ruse by him to avoid suspicion.
