What I don’t get l, if you aren’t joking, is how someone who says they don’t care for it gets downvoted like the dickens. You never said it was a terrible movie, or even denied that it may be one of the best ever, just that you don’t care for it.

I get the same reaction from people when I say I don’t care for the Beatles. I just never really liked them.

ETA I get that it is a family guy quote. But wanted to make a point.

Don't worry. Your joke didn't go over everyone's head.

I love both of them pretty much equally.

I found II a little hard to follow at first with all the flashback scenes and jumping not only in time frame, but also in locations.

They did come out a few years ago with a version of II with the events in sequence and also added scenes that were cut and it was a pretty interesting take when compared to the first cut that made the cinemas.

Its a language of subtlety, something many on here do not understand. I wanted to link the source of this but I like it that his comment, true to the scene, upsets people.

Here is how I would rate them:
Godfather
Goodfellas
Godfather II
The Money Pit

Hated the flashbacks

I loved them. The scene where young Vito says to baby Michael "tuo padre ti vuole bene assai" is heart-wrenching. It reinforces how Vito wanted Michael to have nothing to do with the mafia life.

You do know that the mafia was/is a real thing?

There is no mafia, just a bunch of people prejudiced against hardworking Italians!

But def 1. 2 is very very good as well but I just didn't like the story with Hyman Roth as much. I get that was themed on Lanksy but Lansky long had the love of basically all of the bosses.

I flip flop on this a lot, but I would say I prefer the second one.
I also flip flop on this but would choose the first one if I had to choose one.

1 was the best but 2 was not far behind. I love The Godfather Epic that HBO did awhile back where it blended the 2 movies into one plus deleted scenes. It’s long as fu#k but it was so damn nice. Wish they would sell that so I can get it

I think The Death Collector (or Family Enforcer, alternate title) with Joe Pesci and Frank Vincent would have been a mob movie great, had it not been dubbed with disco music (which gives it a weird b-movie vibe) and had rock music like in Goodfella's and Mean Streets. The disco aged very bad

Also, HBO's Gotti movie with Armand Assante (not the Travolta one) was a really good mob movie, but much different era from The Godfather.
