Great start to the new season but damn it moves fast as they are trying to keep all the book story arcs going at once. Swiiiish!!

Valid but it's a lot easier for an old man to give a young women a cup of poison wine that to count on being able to stab her to death. As it happens, she saw his grimace from the effects of the poison and drank it anyway without any ill effects.

Are we supposed to know the guy that the City Watch beat on to find out about Robert's bastard at the brothel?

I think he was the blacksmith that Robert's bastard was apprentice under.

No that was the guy whose head was being held over the burning coals in the second to last scene of the episode.

Ok, I dont feel so bad then.

Also, did they mention the connection between Joor and the guy with all the wife-daughters? Or are we just supposed to be able to tell that they have a history with each other?

They were killing all of Robert's bastards. Took me a little while to get that as well until they did mass murder and then showing his son.

Because that was one of Robert's bastard children. Joffrey issued orders to the city guards to hunt down and kill all of his late father's bastard children.

I got the impression it was Cersei, because Joffrey wouldn't have that information and who Robert's bastard children would be, while Cersei certainly might.

It may have been Cersei. You're probably right. Either way, you can tell that some of the guards didn't like the order.

Joffrey didn't know where the bastards were but in the scene with Cersei he certainly knew they were out there and wanted them eliminated.

Her name is Melisandre....a priestess advising Stannis Baratheon. He's Robert's oldest brother.

I think Cersei did as well, I just don't know how Joffrey would know which bastard would be Robert's.

Stannis Baratheon

One of Robert Baratheon's two younger brothers, Stannis served as Master of Ships on the Small Council. A serious man, Stannis preferred the solitude of the family seat in Dragonstone to King's Landing, but he is now challenging both his nephew Joffrey and his brother Renly for the throne.

\

Davos Seaworth

A reformed smuggler who lost the tips of his fingers on one hand as punishment for his previous misdeeds, Davos rescued Stannis and his men during the long siege of Storm's End by procuring onions and other foods to save the soldiers from starvation, hence his nickname, "The Onion Knight." He is trusted by Stannis to share his unvarnished opinion.

Melisandre

A Red priestess from Asshai, she worships the Lord of Light. As an advisor to Stannis Baratheon, she has converted him and most of his household to the religion.
