I still don't think book Coldhands is Benjen. I think the show just combined the two characters for simplicity.
Show Benjen doesn't ride an elk. He doesn't have a flock of Ravens. He doesn't say that he has been dead for a long time. Etc.

Fair point, but those characters seem awfully duplicative at this point, just from a storytelling perspective if they are indeed separate characters in the books.

The show definitely combined them for simplicity and to give show watchers a satisfying reintroduction to Benjen.
I agree that Coldhands won't be Benjen in the books, unless GRRM is doing one of those horseshite things like "The Benjen we knew is dead. Coldhands is a completely different person." Kinda like the Elder Brother with the Hound.

If Benjen isn't coldhands in the book then I don't think Benjen ever comes back. His return only really makes sense as coldhands, and I don't see him becoming a WW

I agree with you, I think his disappearance was really just breadcrumbs to make readers wonder about the happenings beyond the wall. I think his fate will be purposefully left undetermined.

Probably not.
A fat man could use those two words only the rest of his life.
"GRRM, is the WoW done yet...?"
"GRRM are you EVER going to publish it...?"
"GRRM is GNC, R+L=J, and HS=HR just crackpot BS...?"
Yes. That works nicely.

I agree with this now having the explanation of dragon glass through the heart. I think GRRM had to give this to the show guys and think it ends up being him...or he never comes back.

I want a mathematical calculation of the probability of Dany being fireproof or not, and I want someone else in here to google the definition of probably for me, then, whatever you give me, I will deny and troll.

My belief is Benjen is gone in the books. He is off being a wight somewhere. I think Coldhands will do this plot in the books, but the show didn't want to explains fricking dude riding an elk with a flock of ravens.

While I don't think GRRM will have Dany be fireproof in the books like on the show, I do believe Coldhands will turn out to be Benjen. I think he was either just trying to throw off that person or will use a line about "Coldhands isn't Benjen because Benjen died, and his body is now Coldhands." That is the only reasonable explanation if Benjen ever comes back, and why make his disappearance so mysterious if he won't end up coming back?

In the book Coldhands has been serving the 3ER for hundreds on years I believe. Can't be Benjen.

I didn't remember that from the books. But regardless, Bloodraven is only around 125 years old. And just like there have been multiple people that have been the 3ER, there might also have been multiple people that have been Coldhands.

Well I know for a fact Leaf tells them Coldhands "died long ago" and Benjen went missing just two years prior.

I'm just glad we all agree Dany is fireproof in the books and in the show
