See, you can't know that for sure. I could see if them taking his quote out of context, but I just doubt he would flat out lie when he could just give an open ended answer.
Again, I would be absolutely shocked if Jon is permanently dead. I absolutely don't think he is. But to say you know for sure that he is flat out lying is asinine as well.

Dothraki not going to like that boat ride one bit.
So in the books, Selmy is spearheading a huge battle in mereen.
In the show, Varys and Tyrion are running Mereen.
In the books, the Boltons are getting beaten from the inside of Winterfell preparing for Stannis's attack.
Show, Boltons defeat Stannis and return to Winterfell victorious... Makes me think the ghost of Winterfell comes next season
So in the books, Selmy is spearheading a huge battle in mereen.
