If I had to guess(not a book reader,only have read the first few chapters of the 1st book) The Mountain is dead or will be dead soon cause he appeared to have been stabbed a few times.
A lot of people I know talking Hound/Mountain now, but unfortunately don't see that happening with the foreshadowing they are doing on his small cut aka the same shite that f'd up Drogo

Yeah, I just assumed it was common knowledge for some reason. I think Twin alluded to it early in the season, though.

I'm usually pretty attentive for a hodor and I don't remember a direct explanation. If I was wrong then I apologize
