Watched a documentary a few years back on the making of this movie and a few of the actors actresses said they all partied hard late into the night during filming. They said Dangerfield was partying as hard as any of them. Said that Ted Knight was very very unhappy about this which was much like his uptight role in the movie.

2 many good 1 liners and characters.

I was involved in a car accident recently, and the lady that hit another car, and deflected into back of my work vehicle, looked just like Judge Smails wife. So it reminded me of all the good lines in the flick and i laughed to myself as she got out of the car.

Has to be Bill Murray for me.
Same for me. He's always been the funniest part of the movie for me.

Really, any time you have to swing a club-like sporting instrument. Baseball bat, croquet mallet, polo.
I'd add any athlete, in a big moment for them, at that time. From golf on TV to a junior high kid shooting a big free throw.

Ted Knight is one of the great straight men in comedy. In his Ted Baxter role from the Mary Tyler Moore Show he plays it just as straight. Insted of being super mean, he's a bafoon, but doesn't know it. No one is going to ruin it for the rest of the office. He's the funniest part of that show, but he plays it so straight. Like Judge Smalls, he had a high opinion of himself.

Ted Knight and it isn't close IMO

Agree.

After about 100 times watching the movie, its him. His character is perfect

Ted Knight puts in the work though as that unintentionally awkward funny guy. He's the most important guy in the film.

Ted Knight’s Judge Smails is on the Mt Rushmore of comedic antagonist of all time. He doesn’t get the fan fare but he was the best character in a great comedy.

Shows my youth and ignorance. Did Dangerfield do a lot of improv?

Rodney had so many one liners...

"Now I know why tigers eat their young"
"Hey baby, I bet you were something before electricity"
" When you buy a hat like this I bet you get a free bowl of soup, huh? ... But it looks good on you!"
"This steak still has marks from where the jockey was hitting it."
