Some interesting stuff from Harold Perrineau (Boyd) from a recent interview.
On that last scene only being on his face:
"I feel like it was a gift. When Jack told me that’s what he wanted to do, I felt like, wow, he must really trust me. He was like, we’re just going to take the camera, and we’re just going to come to you, and you’re going to lead us through. I was like, okay. Okay. We can do it, Jack."
On only knowing what he needs to know and not the entire story:
"They’ve offered to tell me, and I’ve declined. I’ve declined fully. I only want to know what I need to know. Like in the first season, I needed to know that the reason that Boyd and Ellis (Corteon Moore) weren’t speaking was because Boyd shot Abby (Lisa Ryder). I needed to know that because he carries it like a giant weight through the whole season. What happens in the barn? I didn’t need to know that until I needed to know it. For me, I want to be able to look at it and find the most immediate response that I have because this way, when people see it and talk to me about it, I’m hoping that we can share that moment together. That they’ll be like, ‘Oh my God,’ when they saw that, and I’m going, right? Right!? That’s exactly what I thought! I don’t want to spoil it. I want it to feel as immediate as all of the danger feels in the show.”
On the rest of season 3:
"Yeah, it’s hurtful and heavy, but I think it’s all the stuff that the audience is going to really, really love. But it’s a nasty piece of business. It really, really is. It’s bad for Boyd, and it lasts the whole season. It’s nasty. That’s how I can describe it.”

What an ending to that first episode
So glad this show is back. It’s about the only show I keep up with these days.

I always wonder why they don’t just take the whole town and try to move the tree in the road. Just to see what happens when you drive past it.
They can’t get back to the tree. You find the tree across the road, see the ravens and once you turn around, you are in an endless loop. The tree does not show again, as if it’s some kind of portal

I like that because it makes me confident that the showrunners at least know what they are doing with the story and that they have some sort of resolution to it, as opposed to them just making shite up as they go. If that's the case, we are in for a ride. I've always said that I wish shows would start out with just a contract with a known number of episodes so that they can create a solid, tight show with plotlines that don't meander to the point where it feels like filler.
So hopefully that's what the case is with this show, because so far it's one of my favorite shows in a long, long time.

Yeah I don't know why I was thinking that at some point we saw them go back to the tree for some reason.

I do appreciate how dark it gets. Really amps up the horror of the whole situation.

Really good start to season 3. It felt like they have more budget to use. Everything looked a lot better this first episode than the previous 2 seasons.
I thought something seemed off with the priest Tabitha spoke with in the real world. Interesting to see if there is more to that or if that goes nowhere. Also interesting to see if Tabitha’s mom is able to get the police involved to track the kids phone she used to call her or if anything happens with that.

So the talismans only work on doors? Seems like you could use it in your hand to keep them away

Another great episode.
SPOILERS
Fatima is definitely carrying some kind of demon/monster baby. The crops started going bad when she got pregnant, and now she's eating them. The monsters are feeding her for whatever's inside.
The fricking acting in the episode was phenomenal. Kenny going from ecstatic finding the crops to dealing with his mom's death was heartbreaking. The scene with him and Boyd at the cave -- "take care of him, he's alone now" -- damn near broke me. I'm glad they had Kenny accept Boyd's embrace instead of him blaming everything on Boyd (which I thought was going to happen).
Interesting that Victor's mom first encountered Fromville during an acid trip. Feels like they could be relevant in some way.
Victor's dad is a great character. The scene where he asks Tabitha if she's pulling a cruel prank on him was really well done.
Jade using the "you'll be with us when we go" line after Kenny's mom said that to him about her husband during the first season.
Jim letting his kids go to the barn near dark after someone was just murdered there is an interesting parenting decision.
Between the Thomas phone call and the Celebration on the radio, the monsters are going all-in on fricking with people this season.

That was…….weird for sure. And I’m not sure what to make of it yet. I’m not sure if I’m leaning toward “monster baby” just yet. But I can’t take it off the table either at this point.

I have blasted Kenny before for being a bad actor. But he did great this episode. I seriously felt for him in the scene in the diner with Kristi when he just kept saying “I’m okay” over and over even though you could tell he was nowhere near okay.
And the Boyd thing repeating the Korean line over and over was weird. But the payoff was great since he was trying to remember it to tell Kenny. And then when Kenny translated it was heartbreaking.

Yeah I’m glad the Tabitha scenes in the real world are making some sense and connections already. I like how that is progressing so far. If I were her I’d be a little concerned that I made it out but still see the boy in white. I would have hoped I left that bullshite back in the hellhole.
Victor’s dad has got to be going through some shite right about now. The acting with him has also been solid.
I still want to know what happened to Victor's mom though. Didn’t we not see what happened with her? IIRC all we know is that she left him to go help the kids in the tower, but we don’t actually see anything onscreen that happens to her. My assumption was that she did what Tabitha did and made it out. But that doesn’t fit in with Victor’s dad still being alone though.
The IRL scenes with Tabitha are my favorite parts of the show so far this season.

In all honesty Jim is fairly terrible on the show. I find myself disliking him more and more each season and week to week. He annoys the shite out of me now when he used to be the main “rational one trying to figure all of this out” character.

And I’m here for it. This season the town is really trying to break people (especially Boyd) and is holding nothing back so far.
This is the best show on television right now. And this season is excellent so far. Things are progressing and weird shite is happening. If they can wrap this up solidly this season and wrap the show up in another one or two seasons, this show will vault up near the top of my favorite shows of all time. I like it that much. I just hope they have a solid vision for the series and are a) given enough time to do it right, and b) not given too much time where they stretch shite out for no reason and it drags and the quality drops.
I just wish it was more popular right now. It deserves a larger audience. And this thread deserves more discussion too. But I’m here for the long haul with this show. It’s excellent.

This is too good of a show to be buried on MGM+. If it was on Amazon Prime I think it would have double the viewership if not more.

how many seasons you predicting? this thing could go on like lost

Kenny is definitely a whiny little bitch sometimes, but who has had it worse in there than him? Boyd had to kill his wife, but she was on a murderous rampage. Kenny had his dad, who was already dealing with dementia, killed because of the direct actions of another person, his mom was tortured as a way of punishing some one else, and a junkie lesbian showed up and stole his girl. And gave his girl one of the worst hair cuts on TV. I feel bad for Kenny.

That's kinda my point. I don't want it to drag on just because. I want the showrunners to have a legit, concise idea of how the story will go and be given enough time to execute that. If that is 4 seasons or 5 or whatever, that's what I want.
Personally I'd be good if they gave them another 1-2 seasons to complete things. That seems reasonable. I just don't want it a) to be cancelled without us getting some resolution, or b) them to extend it and it just goes on and on boringly to the point that I lose interest, a la The Walking Dead.
Posted on 10/2/24 at 2:23 pm to CocomoLSU
With Tabitha getting out at least we know this isn't a purgatory like LOST was.

Well I rewatched the S2 finale tonight and when Victor takes Tabitha to the bottle tree (so she can get to the tower) he tells her that was where he found her body and that she never made it into the tree (or presumably to the tower either).
So I just forgot about that I guess. So my little theory about his mom possibly making it out of the hell town is blown to shite. :lol.

HOLY frickING shite, THIS SHOW IS UNREAL.
This episode was a total mindfrick and absolutely not at all where I thought it was heading. Holy shite.
Best show currently on television. And it isn’t really close IMO.

I found this show by accident and binged the first 2 seasons. It's been a good show. (Some of the acting/dialogue is mid) I'm worried the writers are going to have way too much to answer without it being a dumb ending. I really hope I'm wrong.
Anyway, they got me with the tree at the end there. Let's go!
