That was another thing that sucked about Hidden Temple...you were paired up with a partner, usually random (I think), who most of the time sucked and was not athletic at all. Definitely would hold you back and would be frustrating.

I'm pretty sure you are right about the teams being chosen randomly and the partners not knowing each other before. I vaguely remember the host telling the teammates in different episodes that they will definitely be friends after the show if they win. Would totally suck if you were given a terrible slow and Unathletic partner. That variable definitely sucks in these shows. Especially like the nick arcade example. That was horrible.

A show like Guts where it's you vs all is definitely better unless the other shows would let you choose partners.

I remember that show! They ran through a freakin maze, wearing velcro vests and and helmets and just cramming game cartridges everywhere! The finish line was sliding down a slide with a shite ton of games! What's the name of that show!?

Video Power

Prize round starts at 2:50

Wow, yes. Good call.

That kid host had to be on cocaine or something.

No doubt. It seemed like he played the same exact character in both Mr Cooper and Smart Guy. High school basketball player and dumb in the classroom.

Funny watching him try to play-by-play Megaman 3.

"Mark is going in the level and..OH..he's trying to dodge those flying circle thingies..."

Man, I wish a TD'er had actually made it onto Guts as a kid. I'd love to have seen the look on Mike O'Mally's face when he interviewed him after one of the games.

Mike: You came in first place! How was that?
Kid: Well, I'll tell ya, Mike, that was the goddam tits!

It would be a YouTube legend foreve.

I'm not sure who was more over zealous. The refs in wild and crazy kids or the temple guards in hidden temple that would grab and remove kids from the temple run like kidnappers.

they always seemed to be more gentle with the females. they'd like grab them aroudn the waist and guide them out of the room while they were screaming.

if it was a boy they'd just grab him by the shirt and drag him out of there.

and FWIW i used to fantasize about crossing the moat.

I remember watching the show when I was younger and seeing the kids get a bunch of questions wrong on the steps of knowledge. I just sat there at my house wondering what the hell were these kids doing during the reading of the legend. Some of them seem like they didn't listen at all
