He's a clown don't worry about him. As far as actual discussion what's the guy who played Magneto in the new X-Men reboots, Michael Fassbender I believe, he would make a good Bond. I do agree you need just the slightest touch of humor in the character sometimes.
I think the recent movies were playing off the success of Chrisopher Nolan's Batmans and such and focusing on a serious realistic element.
However I still stand by my earlier claim......

I mentioned Joe Cole before, but he is too short.
Henry Llyod-Hughes is 6'2 so he has the traditional height. He is roughly the same build as Connery. Looks a bit like him. Actually, if Ralph Fiennes and Connery had a love child. Lloyd-Hughes would be his twin. He still is more nerdy looking though.
