While funny and based, I still don't believe this movie is worth 13 nominations.

I watched this last night and immediately thought this would win this picture of the year – not because it’s the best movie of the year, but because it has all the political trappings the Academy loves these days. Trans issues, access to medical care, Domestic violence, Immigration, drug trafficking, plus, the first transgender actor to be nominated.

ETA: Plus, forgot to mention it’s both a foreign language film and a musical. Just give them the gold statues already

The exact opposite of what "art" should be praised for. Art for art's sake, not 'current day' propaganda, be it right or left.

But if they want to play that game, fine. They're digging their own grave.

Parasite is the only foreign language film to win, so being a foreign and a film might not mean much.

The last musical was chicago, 20+ years ago. Before that, the most recent was Oliver in 1969.

No film dealing with trans issues has ever won.

Access to medical care: The English Patient, i guess?

Domestic violence? Does 12 years a slave count? 2013.

Immigration would be Oppenheimer. That was obviously recent.

Drug trafficking is The departed, 2007 ceremony

So yeah. Those are obviously all the films that have won recently, and they're all exactly like Emilia Perez. Good observation.

With religion He focused on more than just islam.
quote:

Gascón writes, “I am so sick of so much of this shite, of islam, of christianity, of catholicism and of all the fricking beliefs of morons that violate human rights.”

quote:

“I really think that very few people ever cared about George Floyd, a drug addict swindler, but his death has served to once again demonstrate that there are people who still consider black people to be monkeys Without rights and consider policemen to be assassins,” she posted. “They’re all wrong.”

quote:

“More and more the #Oscars are looking like a ceremony for independent and protest films, I didn’t know if I was watching an Afro-Korean festival, a Black Lives Matter demonstration or the 8M,” Gascón wrote. “Apart from that, an ugly, ugly gala.”

Sounds much less woke than most trans at the time of these at least. I wonder if he was trans at time of tweets.

He is also hypocrite if he is not applying same standard of reasoning on why he got nominated for an Oscar for females.
