She is one of the greatest literary villains ever written. I like Florence Pugh as an actor, but I don’t think she comes close to Jane Seymour’s phenomenal performance as Cathy in the 1981 television miniseries. The actors approached the character from two completely different perspectives. Pugh tried to humanize Cathy somewhat, while still maintaining her villainy. Seymour viewed Cathy as evil incarnate and portrayed her as such, with no humanity or remorse, which I believe is closer to the way Steinbeck wrote her.
