A series adaptation of “Tales of Dunk and Egg,” a prequel to the events of “Game of Thrones,” is in early development at HBO, Variety has learned exclusively from sources. The one-hour show would be based on the series of fantasy novellas by George R. R. Martin, which follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) 90 years prior to the events of “A Song of Ice and Fire.”

No writer or talent is currently attached to the project, but sources say it is a high priority for HBO as the premium cabler looks to build on the success of “Game of Thrones.” Reps for HBO and Martin declined to comment.

After season 8, they will have to win fans back. They won't be building on anything.

Dunk and Egg, Punch and Judy, literally nobody is interested in these puppet shows.

It's amazing how series like GoT and Walking Dead were such a big part of my family's watching habits, and now they're pretty much forgotten.

We can watch Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and Sopranos on an ongoing loop, but there's no way I'd invest in a rewatch of GoT.

They must think i’m as thick as a castle wall if i’m investing my time on this. If only the jolly fat turd would finish the books, i might be interested.

Let’s reimagine a few of those shows with endings written and executed by D&D

Mad Men- Don Draper becomes a priest after his stint at the commune. He never indulges in another Vice again until he died peacefully in his sleep at age 98 surrounded by all his children and their children

Sopranos- Tony Soprano learns the error of his ways while sitting with his family waiting for dinner in a diner and flips on all his mafia affiliations and runs for local office on the platform of a Green New Deal and rooting out mafia corruption

I think the GoT ending to Sopranos would have Vito Spatafore's goth kid suddenly emerging as the head of the Five Families.

I would have been so enthusiastic about this if not for D&D. I hope they both destroyed their own careers, but they probably haven't.

Obviously, I'll still watch it though. I'm not getting my hopes up, though, given the current climate in Hollywood.
